The Rosemount Inn is a distinguished boutique hotel located in downtown Kingston. Our Inn is a heritage property that includes 11 ensuite guest rooms, a parlour, a dining room, kitchen, and gardens. We provide breakfast service to our guests on a daily basis and are very proud of the quality and presentation of our meals.

We are looking for a Breakfast Chef/Cook to prepare and serve a gourmet continental breakfasts to our guests, make snacks/baked goods for small events, and ensure that the kitchen and dining areas are cleaned and maintained in accordance with both legislative requirements and our prescribed standards. We make breads and pastries in-house so the Candidate should also be a passionate baker with an eye for impactful presentation.

The Candidate must be:

  • Available for 5 shifts a week between 6-11 am, including weekends and holidays (rotating)
  • Detail-oriented and organized, and are able to multi-task in a busy kitchen environment.
  • Able to follow instructions on guest preferences.
  • Able to work independently to prepare and serve food for up to 24 guests. Taking ownership over the kitchen operations and breakfast service in order to provide a beautiful experience.
  • Passionate about promoting warm guest experiences. The Candidate is pleasant, honest, friendly and should also be able to address guest requests and concerns in a respectful and responsible manner.
  • Comfortable with communicating over the phone, text messages and email, and able to perform operations on a computer (e.g. Word, Excel)
  • Able to adhere to a prescribed dress code and ensure personal grooming and appearance standards are met regarding cleanliness, sanitation and hygiene.
  • Able to communicate and conduct themselves in a respectful and professional manner with guests and fellow colleagues.
  • Able to perform physical duties that includes walking, climbing stairs, bending and lifting.

Duties and responsibilities are, but not limited to:

1) Creating a memorable breakfast experience

  • Plan and execute a standardized menu rotation based on budget
  • Preparing and presenting food and beverages in accordance with standardized recipes and specifications
  • Adjusting menus & recipes for dietary restrictions and preferences on a short notice
  • Preparing the dining room and set tables for each breakfast seating
  • Attending to beverage service (brew and serve a selection of hot and cold beverages to guests)
  • Attending to guests during breakfast and clean up place settings after each guest
  • Cleaning up the dining room after each service
  • As needed, serving meals in guestrooms or in other common areas

2) Maintaining the kitchen in accordance with standardized procedures

  • Cleaning and maintaining the kitchen, and ensuring that food preparation and serving areas meet health and safety and sanitary food handling practices at all time
  • Working with KFLA Health on routine inspections
  • Completing any necessary documentation (e.g. food labeling, refrigeration temperatures, dishwashing machine setting, menu changes, inventory logs)

3) Oversee kitchen operations, including scheduling, staffing, and training

  • Work with two additional assistant cooks to coordinate on scheduling and staffing
  • Train and develop employees, providing guidance and constructive feedback

4) Ensure adequate supplies and equipment are on hand:

  • Monitoring the quality and quantity of supplies and equipment, including inspecting perishable food items. Ensure that adequate supplies are on hand at all time
  • Procure ingredients and supplies

5) Assisting with guest services and morning opening routines

  • Perform morning opening routines - e.g. Turning on lights and music in common areas, bringing in garbage can/recycling from sidewalk, removing any dishware/garbage from common areas, check common areas and dining areas for ambiance.
  • Responding to any ad-hoc guest inquiries until guest concierge service starts at 9am.

Experience & education:

  • Minimum two years’ experience in volume food preparation, catering or special events
  • Restaurant service experience an asset
  • Must have a valid Safe Food Handling Certificate
  • SmartServe Certificate an asset
  • First Aid Certificate an asset
  • Language:English (fluent)
  • Start Date: Immediate
