Blue World Marine Adventures is a new generation marine tourism company, on a mission to open up the underwater world to the greatest cross-section of people, of all ages, with a sense of adventure. The Blue World Marine Adventure’s Clear Kayak Tours are a brand new addition to Kingston, offering daily tours by day and by night.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The position is that of a tour guide on the Blue World Marine Adventure’s Clear Kayak Tours in Kingston Ontario.

In this position, you will be responsible for conducting guided clear kayak tours, during both day and night tours, along the waterfront of downtown Kingston. Your primary responsibility is to ensure the safety and security of the guests on our kayak tours.

You will be responsible for all facets of the day and night tour programs, working under minimal supervision, including the care and operation of vehicles, kayaks, and equipment associated with the tours. You will report to the General Manager.

The ability to clearly speak in English is required. Ability to speak French as well is considered a strong asset.

JOB DUTIES:

  • Responsible for the care and maintenance of the company van, kayak transport cargo trailer, kayaks, and associated tour equipment required for the tour operation.
  • Must have a valid drivers license. Must be comfortable with driving a one-ton van that is pulling a 16 foot cargo trailer.
  • Monitor lake conditions to ensure the safety of guests and tour guides, and coordinate any changes to the tour program to adjust accordingly to conditions.
  • Greet passengers at the designated launch site(s), check their reservation, and assist them with a safety orientation regarding the safe use of PFDs, and safety protocols for the kayaks during the tours, including a review of the tour routes, prior to embarking on the tour kayaks.
  • Assist guests with loading into the tour kayaks.
  • Monitor and assist the guests in the kayaks while on the tour.
  • Assist guests with safe disembarkation of the tour kayaks at the end of the tour.
  • Engage guests throughout the tours, solicit reviews of the tour, and discuss souvenir items – items available for purchase or pick-up (drone video/pictures).
  • Assist crew with ensuring PFDs are properly stored, deck is clean, clear and dry, and seating is ready for next group of guests.
  • Assist with coordination of tours through the day, in contact with the land office/General Manager.

ESSENTIAL SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Exceptional customer service.
  • Superior oral communication.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work with others in a team/crew environment.
  • Punctual, meticulous, and reliable.
  • Ability to drive a one-ton van and tow/maneuver a cargo trailer.
  • Experience with guided kayak tours and the safe use of kayaks.
  • Use of computers (reservation confirmations).

LOCATION:

This position will be based out of Portsmouth Olympic Harbour Marina, located at 55 Yonge Street in Kingston, Ontario. Tour launch sites will be located around downtown Kingston.

HOURS:

The operating season is from May 15th to September 31st (subject to conditions).

As the company will be operating 7 days a week through the entire spring/summer operating season, there are both full-time and part-time job positions available.

FULL-TIME positions are Monday to Friday, from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm.

PART-TIME positions are Saturday to Sunday, from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm.

NOTE: there will be opportunities through the season for employees to rotate between week and week-end shifts as availability dictates.

CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • Basic First Aid (Red Cross).
  • Previous experience with kayak/canoe guiding preferred – minimum two years.
  • Minimum Paddle Canada Level 2 Instructor Certification or acceptable equivalent.
  • Valid Drivers License with a clean driver's abstract (record).
