The Blue World Marine Adventure’s Garden Island Ship Graveyard Tour takes you out to one of the most accessible ship graveyards in the Great Lakes, were you get the opportunity to float over 19th century wrecks of sailing ships and steamships from a by-gone era in clear-hull kayaks, for a unique and unfettered view, while learning the history and importance of these early workhorses of the lakes.

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position is for a tour guide on the Blue World Marine Adventure’s Garden Island Ship Graveyard Tour.

In this position, you will greet our guests on the company’s dedicated passenger transport boat, which will carry our guests from Portsmouth Harbour in Kingston out to our tour site at Garden Island. Your primary responsibility is to ensure the safety and security of the guests on our tours, as well as the vessel and your fellow crew members. You are the face of the company, and you must be both professional and have an outgoing personality that allows you to connect with our guests in the short amount of time we share our time with them.

You will report to the General Manager. The ability to clearly speak in English is required. Ability to speak French as well is considered a strong asset.

JOB DUTIES:

  • Greet passengers, check their reservation, and assist them on board the tour boat and get them seated.
  • On board safety orientation, use of PFDs and conditions of the trip out to Garden Island.
  • Review of the tour site area and safety highlights before embarking on the tour kayaks.
  • Assist crew with safely loading and unloading guests from the tour kayaks.
  • Monitor and assist the guests in the kayaks on the tour site (either from the tour boat or from a kayak with the guests in the tour area).
  • Operate aerial drone for videography and pictures of guests in the kayaks (souvenir item).
  • Engage guests on the return trip to Portsmouth, solicit reviews of the tour, and discuss souvenir items.
  • Assist with coordination of tours through the day, in contact with the land office/General Manager.

  • Ability to work with others in a team/crew environment.
  • Punctual, meticulous, and reliable.
  • Ability to work on the water – on board a boat, or paddle a kayak.
  • Use of computers (reservation confirmations).

LOCATION:

This position will be based out of Portsmouth Olympic Harbour Marina, located at 55 Yonge Street in Kingston, Ontario.

HOURS:

The operating season is from May 15th to September 31st (subject to conditions). As the company will be operating 7 days a week through the entire spring/summer operating season, there are both full-time and part-time job positions available.

FULL-TIME positions are Monday to Friday, from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm.

PART-TIME positions are Saturday to Sunday, from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm.

NOTE: there will be opportunities through the season for employees to rotate between week and week-end shifts as availability dictates.

CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • Basic First Aid (Red Cross)
  • Water Safety Certificate (as required – if required Blue World will assume cost for training).
  • Basic Paddle Canada Certification (as required – if required Blue World will assume cost for training).
  • NAV Canada approved training for the operation of the company’s aerial drone (provided by Blue World at no cost to staff members).
