The Communications and Events Officer reports to the Executive Director, Communications, and collaborates with clients and partners to develop and execute a range of communication materials, including stories, scripts, key messaging, web content, and campaigns. This role involves designing and implementing effective communication strategies and contributing to additional Office of Advancement communications as required. The Officer also plans, manages, and executes communication deliverables for alumni and donor events. These efforts support Advancement and university-wide strategic goals and priorities.

Communications, including those for events, are customized to engage diverse audiences such as alumni, donors, community members, volunteers, the Queen's University Alumni Association (QUAA), and its branches. These efforts ensure alignment with Advancement's objectives while strengthening connections with these key stakeholders.

This position develops, organizes, and implements communications strategies and plans that promote and profile departments, programs and services. This position performs market scans, recommends the focus of communications, and develops measurement criteria to evaluate effectiveness. This position also manages ongoing communication projects for publications and social media and serves as editor/publisher for print and digital publications.

The schedule for this position requires the incumbent to work variable hours on a regular basis, including evenings and weekends. In addition, travel is an inherent part of the position. This position is subject to the Averaging and Travel Time Credit provisions of the USW Local 2010 Collective Agreement.

Required Education

  • Four-Year Bachelor Degree or equivalent. In addition, requires trade certification, qualification, or on-going learning to remain ahead of changes in technology or emerging fields.

Required Experience

  • More than 3 years and up to and including 5 years of experience.
  • Experience planning, coordinating and/or managing events or promotions considered an asset.
  • Experience in writing, interviewing, reviewing, editing and/or proofreading internal and/or external communications and documents considered an asset (e.g., social media, policy manuals, newsletters, handbooks, legal documents, forms/templates, blogs, training/reference materials, technical documents, webinars, etc.).
  • Experience developing, coordinating and producing promotional and marketing material considered an asset.
  • Experience in client and/or customer experience functions considered an asset.
  • Experience in data, trend analysis and reporting considered an asset.
  • Experience in managing/developing strategic communication plans considered an asset.
  • Experience working at a post-secondary education institution considered an asset.
  • Experience working in a comparable client-focused environment considered an asset
  • Experience working in a non-profit office considered an asset.
  • Experience working with diverse populations/equity deserving groups considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of relationship building, fundraising and stewardship considered an asset.
