We are currently seeking a Pathways Coach/Essential Skills Instructor —Get SET (Skills Education and Training) with experience in adult-learner instruction and workshop facilitation. The Pathways Coach works with case managers and administration at Ontario Works to provide resources and support to Ontario Works clients with diverse challenges. Meeting with clients and assessing client needs, and determining a [SC1.1]plan. The Pathways Coach will support the day-to-day operations by delivering outcomes-based adult skills upgrading in a classroom environment.

Our Get SET [SC2.1]program is focused on building essential skills (reading, writing, basic math, digital, and pre-employment soft skills) for adult learners through individualized instruction and “targeted training” workshops. Key responsibilities include:

  • Planning and delivering instruction and targeted training;
  • Assessing learner progress toward individual goals; and
  • Non-instructional responsibilities, including administrative and reporting tasks related to learner enrollment and case management.

Learners in Get SET programs are from all backgrounds, including adults with learning challenges, English as a second language[SC3.1], and other equity-deserving groups.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of two years teaching or training experience with adult learners
  • English-language proficiency at or above CLB 7 or a native English speaker
  • Strong proficiency in literacy (reading and writing), basic math, and digital skills and the ability or experience in teaching these skills to others in an in-person classroom or training setting
  • Strong decision-making skills related to teaching and training, including determining appropriate modifications, accommodations, and differentiated support [SC4.1]
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to use a variety of strategies to engage learners with adverse experiences
  • Experience supporting adults with barriers to success
  • Demonstrates respect and commitment to the principles of equity, diversity, inclusion, and anti-racism[SC5.1]
  • Professionalism, critical thinking, and experience managing competing priorities
  • Ability to work in an academic team setting, and ability to work with little supervision
  • Evidence of ability to be creative and flexible
  • Clear Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check (CPIC)
  • Current authorization to work in Canada

Considered an Asset:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in English, Social Services, Education or equivalent qualification
  • Earned certification or Trainer designation in Safe Food Handling, Smart Serve, CPR First Aid, or similar pre-employment-focused certificate program
  • Identification as a member of an equity-deserving group
  • Experience with any Employment Ontario program or similar workforce and skills development program
  • Experience working in a multicultural and diverse environment

Other details:

  • Two work locations: Kingston Literacy & Skills and Ontario Works
  • Hours of work: Monday, 8:30 am – 4:00 pm with a ½ hour unpaid lunch; Tuesday 1:30 pm-8:00 pm ½ hour meal break; Wednesday 8:30 am – 4:00 pm with ½ hour unpaid lunch, Thursday and Friday 8:30 am – 12 noon. Total of 27 hours weekly.
  • Salary: $25.00/hour plus benefits, paid leave, and professional development opportunities. This is a contract position to March 31, 2027, renewable contingent upon funding. The start date for this position is immediate. This is a new position.
