As a Turbine Technician, you will be a compliment to members of the service crew. You will get first-hand knowledge of Safety and the operations and maintenance of Wind Turbines. This role is for technical students who have a high interest in renewables (wind) and want some hands-on field experience.
Placement Details:
- This is a 4-month paid summer internship beginning in May 2024.
- There are two positions available. Candidates will be required to be located in Ridgetown, ON.
- A personal vehicle is required as this location is not on a public transit route.
What you will do:
- Ensures maintenance of wind turbines at the wind farm.
- Closely adheres to all safety standards and procedures. Identifies risks and gaps in safety execution in the operational environment and either stops work / escalates or implements defined and appropriate mitigation methods with appropriate oversight.
- Demonstrates risk-averse safety behaviour at all times.
- Provides recommendations to higher-level technical staff and management regarding everything safety. Encourages and recognizes others completing safe acts and intervenes when unsafe acts are practiced.

- Demonstrates integrity, strong initiative, work ethic, as well as a focus on safety and quality of work continuously.
- Participate in the improvement of procedures and service best practices in the field.
- The work environment requires working within the wind turbine Nacelle at a height of 300 ft.
- Act thoughtfully and to remain calm in stressful situations and/or hazardous, and work in enclosed spaces.
- Interact with people in demanding and time-sensitive work environments.
- Effectively gathers information regarding equipment status. Seeks assistance when encountering turbine issues outside of trained skill level to ensure success in the execution of duties.
- Effectively contributes to a strong team environment through assisting other technicians/team members in accomplishing mutual goals, supporting and promoting a team environment.
- Follow all directions to ensure scheduled annual wind turbine maintenance is conducted safely.
Who you are:
- You are currently enrolled in a full-time post-secondary College program studying Renewable Energy, Electrical or Mechanical related programs, and will be returning to full-time school immediately following the work term.
- Effective and professional communication both verbal and written with the ability to communicate with all levels within the organization.
- Ability to work in a team environment as well as independently.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality, especially with handling sensitive documents and company information
- Positive self-starter. Able to be proactive in assessing team needs and offering support where required.
- Effective time management and organizational skills with keen attention to detail.
- Solid computer skills and experience using MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Willing and able to engage in physical labour workflows including:
- Ability to climb stairs and ladders 80 meters in height.
- Ability to lift, push, pull, carry items up to 50 lbs in weight.
- Ability to stand, stoop, kneel, and bend for prolonged periods.
- Ability to grip and manually manipulate, often with repetitive motion, items such as, but not limited to, hand tools, turbine parts.
- Comfort working in confined spaces and at heights over 80 meters.
- Ability to hear and use close range radios.
- A strong field of vision including visual depth perception and the ability to distinguish colours.
- Able to work in demanding physical and inclement weather conditions.
- Ability to successfully participate in all training courses, including controlled descent.
- Comfort working remotely in a Turbine as part of a team with limited supervisory interaction.
- Ability to actively and consistently represent Enbridge’s core values (Safety, Integrity, Respect, Inclusion).
Working Conditions:
- This is a field position and requires an individual with the ability to work at heights and climb 80 meters suspended from ladders. Able to work in demanding physical and inclement weather conditions. The work environment requires working within the wind turbine nacelle at a height of 300 ft.
