Are you a Library Technician with supervisory experience ready to lead a team of customer service staff? Under the direction of the Manager, Branches and Collections, the Branch Supervisor is responsible for:

  • Maintaining good staff and customer/patron relations.
  • Ensuring consistent customer service delivery.
  • Providing circulation and information services at the self-service points and at the desk.
  • Training patrons in the use of branch services, materials and equipment.
  • Interpreting and applying library and branch policies and procedures.
  • Supervising and coordinating activities of customer service staff and Pages including training (e.g. VSmart, sorter), preparing and monitoring daily branch schedules and reassigning staff as demand varies (e.g., breaks, BIB, floating, picklist, shelf reading).
  • Responding to emergency situations.
  • Non-disciplinary coaching of staff.
  • Liaising with Facility staff to resolve facility related issues at the Branch; liaising with Systems staff to resolve Systems related issues at the Branch.
  • Ensuring the branch is well maintained, organized and secure.
  • Ensuring that supplies used at the customer service desks and within the branch are in supply (e.g. library cards).
  • Ensuring the cash management skills of customer service staff meet the Library’s standards of security and accuracy, including reconciliation of branch cash.
  • Ensuring that Branch opening and closing procedures are established and adhered to.
  • Keeping abreast of trends and technology in library services.
  • Routinely evaluating procedures and recommending improvements and modifications.

The Successful Candidate

In addition to demonstrating integrity, teamwork skills, and a commitment to excellent customer service, this position requires:

  • Library Technician Diploma or equivalent education and experience.
  • 1-2 years' experience in a relevant position.
  • Experience supervising front-line customer service staff.
  • Excellent customer service and de-escalation skills, tact, resourcefulness, and flexibility, as well as a passion for library service.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and leadership skills.
  • Working knowledge of computers and devices (e.g., printers, tablets, e-readers), and commonly used software such as Microsoft Office; Internet Explorer; Windows; and be comfortable with using KFPL's digital collections and services (e.g., Overdrive), social networking applications and email applications (e.g., Gmail).
  • Must hold a valid Class G driver’s license and be able to use own personal vehicle in performance of duties.
  • Shift work, evenings and Saturdays are required. Sunday shifts on a voluntary basis.

Compensation

$55,474 - $60,442 per annum. A comprehensive benefits package including pension (OMERS) is provided. This position is covered by the terms of the CUPE Local 2202 collective agreement with the Kingston Frontenac Public Library.

Conditions of Employment

The successful candidate, to whom an employment offer has been made, shall be required to provide at their own expense:

  • A current Criminal Record Check (CRC), including vulnerable sector.
  • A current three-year uncertified driver record.
