This position is an integral part of the team in the Water and Wastewater Operations in our Utilities Division. The successful incumbent will work at multiple treatment facilities to provide general building and grounds-keeping maintenance. Primary duties will be general building and grounds maintenance at multiple locations. These duties will include grass cutting, weed trimming, painting, window cleaning, floor sweeping and general maintenance of cleanliness. As assigned this position may support the Utilities Team with daily tasks and projects. Some data entry using a computer will be required. The ideal candidate will be enrolled in an Environmental or Civil Engineering or similar program.

EDUCATION SKILLS, TRAINING:

  • Enrolled or a recent graduate from a diploma program from an accredited college or university.
  • OIT certification in water/wastewater operations considered an asset.
  • Passport to Safety Certificate, considered an asset.
  • First Aid/CPR desirable.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Motivated, demonstrated initiative and ability to work independently with minimum direction.
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Suite of products.
  • Experience operating a variety of small equipment and tools
  • A valid class “G2” driver’s license and a satisfactory driver’s record is required.

Note: This position is subject to eligibility criteria adjustments in the event grant funding is secured.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Grounds maintenance at multiple locations including:
    • Grass cutting
    • Weed trimming
    • Painting
    • Window cleaning,
  • General building maintenance at multiple locations including:
    • Floor sweeping
    • General maintenance of cleanliness
  • Assisting Maintenance workers with various tasks
  • Basic office work
  • Data entry
  • Operations support
  • Hydrant flushing
  • Valve turning
  • Water Meter replacements

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:

Internal: Daily communication with Township employees

External: Occasional interaction with Township residents, contractors, and visitors

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Frequent and regular outdoor work in various and changing weather conditions that include but is not limited to rain, hot and cool temperatures, and wind.
  • Ability to work additional hours beyond the normal working day.
  • May be operating equipment for long periods (3-4 hours) without a break
  • Frequent moderate physical exertion and occasional heavy physical exertion, including lifting, digging, shoveling, raking and climbing ladders
  • Work may include locations with exposure to sensory elements including waste materials and smells.
