Loyalist Township is now accepting applications for the summer Museum Assistant. This summer position will work directly with the Heritage, Culture and Tourism Division and will support the daily functions of the division during the busy summer season, including the daily operations of three Township-owned historical sites: the Bath Museum, the Fairfield Gutzeit House and the Babcock Mill. The successful candidate will assist with a variety of tasks at their assigned site, including collection research, site interpretation, and supporting the delivery of special events and programs. The successful student will gain valuable work experience in the museum, culture, and tourism sector.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
- Currently enrolled in post-secondary education or a recent graduate in a field related to: History, Museum Studies, Education, Marketing, Communication, Tourism.
- Interested in history, community development, tourism, and culture.
- Strong research, analytical and communication skills with a high level of attention to detail and the ability to work independently on specific tasks.
- Excellent customer service and ability to interact with visitors.
- Experience volunteering or working in the museum, tourism and culture field will be considered an asset.
Note: This position is subject to eligibility criteria adjustments in the event grant funding is secured.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The student will assist with:
- Providing engaging and informative site tours of the Bath Museum, Fairfield Gutzeit House and Babcock Mill.
- The administration of the museums including documenting data on visitor attendance and satisfaction.
- Assist with cleaning and maintenance of the museums physical plant, grounds, and exhibits.
- Collections management including cataloguing, inventory, and collections care.
- Support site operations, workshops, and special programs.
- Support with the creation of site activations including scavenger hunts, puzzles, and games for visitors to enjoy.
- Other duties as assigned.
WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:
Internal: Daily communication with Township employees
External: Daily interactions with Township residents and visitors
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Normal office-type environment located within heritage buildings (may be in office or other municipal buildings). May be seated for long periods (3-4 hours).
