The County of Frontenac Planning Services team provides professional land use planning advice to Council, staff, member municipalities and the public. In addition to acting as the upper-tier approval authority for Official Plans and Plans of Subdivision and Condominium, the County also provides planning services for three lower-tier Townships. The Planning and Economic Development Department works collaboratively in the implementation of regional planning initiatives with a focus on rural sustainability.
The Planning Intern will assist the planning team in a variety of planning functions including the preparation of land use analysis and policy development for planning studies and in processing planning applications. The Planning Intern will utilize their degree education to contribute to the Planning department and continue to gain experience and knowledge by responding to general inquires, attending pre-application consultation meetings, site visits and committee meetings, as well as establishing and maintaining planning applications, standard forms, and guidance documents and will assist with public engagement projects.
The Planning Intern will carry out the duties in alignment with the organization’s mission, vision and values, and work to further its priorities.
This position is designed to be filled on a 16-week basis to coincide with the academic terms at most colleges and universities. It may be filled by an individual during a short break from their studies, such as during the summer, or during the academic year as part of a cooperative program operated by their academic institution.
Education and Experience:
- University degree or college diploma, in Planning/Geography, or related field, and currently enrolled in additional academic studies related to land use planning (e.g. Master’s program)
- Eligibility for membership in the Canadian Institute of Planners and/or Ontario
- Professional Planners Institute, an asset
