Reporting to the Principal Investigator, the Research Coordinator works within a team- based structure to coordinate and oversee research in the Division of Dermatology. The job will include descriptive research, investigator-initiated and potentially industry clinical trials. The Research Coordinator will work with a dermatology database and aid in the design of protocols and data collection modules to establish and maintain the database. The Research Coordinator will promote an awareness and understanding of trial design, goals, and procedures in compliance relevant guidelines and be responsible for critical evaluation of incoming information, and help orchestrate analyses leading to the dissemination of results and eventual publications. The incumbent will communicate and liaise with other departments, agencies, and individuals and organize special events with regards to the research portfolio.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for development, implementation, support and evaluation of research programs of the Division of Dermatology, working with divisional members.
- Responsible for planning, organizing and implementing special events such as research meetings and conferences. This may include organization of public relations or advertising campaigns to increase the presence and influence of the division, Queen's and its students, staff and faculty outside of the university. Expectations include direction and supervision of volunteers, students, or a project team if applicable.
- Additional administrative duties include communication with research ethics, responding to correspondence and requests for information, and helping faculty with budgets and participate in resource allocation.
- Communicate and liaise with other departments, agencies, and individuals and provide orientation and training if required. The Research Coordinator, along with the faculty members, will ensure research is handled in full compliance with applicable guidelines, legislation, and regulations.
- Keep track of research budgets, required reporting and ethics renewal. Review research protocols and consents for clarity, and compliance with regulations. Participate in modifications and implementation of modifications as required.
- Determine content and delivery of training seminars, information sessions, and instructional materials if required. Coordinate information dissemination to program participants and the entire community as appropriate.
- Remain current on issues relevant to the focus of the position by means of research and outreach programs.
- Provide work direction, and technical/functional guidance to staff. Schedule and assign work, and oversee its completion. Coordinate and monitor work flow.
- Provide orientation and on-the-job training to employees in the unit. Provide coaching and feedback on work quality issues, providing related day-to-day supervision. Escalate unresolved performance and/or disciplinary matters to management.
- Undertake other duties as assigned in support of the department.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- A university degree in an area relevant to the duties of the position, such as dermatology, health research, epidemiology, statistics or another related field, with several years of related experience.
- Specialized training or a graduate degree will be viewed favourably.
- A clear understanding of consent, Tri-council policy, and rules and regulations of human research is required.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Access is required. Knowledge of statistical programs such as R, STATA or SAS is beneficial.
- Experience and/or training in interviewing, education, or administration is considered an asset.
- Experience planning an international research meeting will be considered an asset.
- Experience working in a university environment will be considered an asset.
- Satisfactory Criminal Records Check (‘CPIC’) required.
- Consideration may be given to an equivalent combination of education and experience.

- Supervisory duties may include delegation of research tasks, training of volunteers/students, and conducting performance appraisals.
- Determine priorities and make decisions about staff utilization and the assignment of work to achieve optimum efficiencies and productivity.
