Bring your knowledge and experience to St. Lawrence Youth Association, (SLYA) to work with young persons in conflict with the law. Under the general direction and supervision of the Residential Manager (RM) you will provide services to young persons in conflict with the law, aged 12 to 17 years in a secure custody facility.
This role requires a strong presence and assertive communication, while leading through example in difficult situations in a manner suited to culture, gender and developmental needs.
Role:
- Supports the goals and objectives of the SLYA and aligns with its mission, vision, values and principles.
- To provide consistency of program application, adherence to facility rules, policy and program expectations.
- Manage emergency situations
Mandatory requirements:
- Valid Province of Ontario ‘G’ Driver’s License
- Criminal reference check that is declared suitable for vulnerable sector employment,
- Current First Aid/CPR- Certificate
- Covid 19 – Second dose and boosters
- Successful candidate will be required to provide a physician’s note indicating their fitness to work as per the job description
- Bilingualism and volunteer experience is an asset

Duties/Responsibilities:
Communication/Teamwork
- Experience/education to fulfil the role of Youth Justice Worker
- Verbal communication to liaise with staff and clients to support
- Written communication skills for completion of shift logbook including accuracy, inclusivity and completion prior to sign off, ensuring proper procedures are followed. Ensure policies and procedures are being followed
- Teamwork is modelled in all areas of the agency.
Technical
- Trauma informed knowledge/experience including proven de-escalation during an incident i.e. Use emergency management techniques
- Health and Safety, ensure safety and security for staff and clients
- Ability to learn and enforce SLYA policies and procedures
- Computer skills i.e. Microsoft Office
EDUCATION:
- Proof of Education Diploma/Degree/Certificate in relevant field of study and/or
- 3 years experience
Other Details:
- Part-Time 24-Hour Weekends
- 6 Month Contracts (3 positions)
- Wage: starting at $28.30 per hour plus 10% in lieu of benefits.
- START DATE: Immediate
- HOURS: Twenty-four guaranteed weekend hours each pay period in a fixed schedule, with the ability to accept extra shifts when available. Shifts include rotational day, evening, and night shifts.
