The Housing and Ancillary Services team manages 4,954 student beds in 18 residence buildings, three dining halls, numerous retail foodservice locations on campus, the Donald Gordon Hotel and Conference Centre, and Event Services. Residence buildings also provide temporary accommodations for the summer conference, events and tourism markets. In addition, the Community Housing team manages the off-campus rental apartment and housing properties which are student rental properties owned by Queen's University. This includes two apartment complexes located at west campus – An Clachan and John Orr Tower – as well as a variety of apartments and houses in the University District. Revenue and services from these units support vital student life programs and contribute to the University's learning environment.

The Off-Campus Living Advisor supports Queen's students—graduate, undergraduate, part-time, International, and exchange— with off-campus housing and related matters. With the goal of fostering independence, the Advisor provides students with skills and tools for resolving problems in the areas of housing and lifestyle that arise among students and landlords, students and Kingston residents, and/or students and students. The Advisor tracks local housing trends, including prices and housing development, to help inform decisions related to housing for students on and off campus. The Advisor refers, as appropriate, potential instances of non-academic misconduct to the Non-Academic Misconduct Intake Office (NAMIO) for assessment.

This position provides subject matter expertise on the content, development and implementation of community programs. This position develops, recommends, plans, and organizes the design, launch, and implementation of outreach programs. This position identifies and recommends community program funding opportunities and partnerships. This position participates in the development and implementation of strategic plans, unit goals, and program policies. This position also directs, allocates, and supervises the work of other staff.

What you will do

  • Provides subject matter expertise on the content, development and implementation of community programs.
  • Develops, recommends, plans, and organizes the design, launch, and implementation of outreach programs.
  • Uses information gathered during planning to revise current programming.
  • Identifies and recommends community program funding opportunities and partnerships.
  • Performs statistical analysis to determine if communication campaigns are reaching target audiences.
  • Develops and implements marketing and communications material for the community program.
  • Coordinates, monitors and updates information on social media platforms.
  • Performs accounting and bookkeeping activities including invoicing, accounts receivable, expenses, program budgeting, and costing.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of strategic plans, unit goals, and program policies.
  • Directs, allocates, and supervises the work of other staff.
  • Acts as the primary resource person for initial questions and information regarding the community program, a provides information and support to researchers and research assistants involved in programs.
  • Monitors and assesses programming at other universities for best practices.
  • Prepares and delivers inclusive outreach workshops and/or information sessions.
  • Updates and maintains program websites.
  • Other duties as required in support of the department and/or unit.

Required Education

  • Four-Year Bachelor Degree or equivalent.

Required Experience

  • More than 3 years and up to and including 5 years of experience.
  • Knowledge of landlord-tenant relations best practices and trends in housing and rental markets considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, policies, standards and/or guidelines considered an asset.
  • Experience in client and/or customer experience functions considered an asset.
  • Experience advising students considered an asset.
  • Experience working in a comparable client-focused environment considered an asset
  • Previous experience developing and delivering workshops considered an asset.
  • Experience in program analysis and reporting considered an asset.
  • Experience developing, coordinating and producing promotional and marketing material considered an asset.

Required Licenses and Certifications

  • Satisfactory Criminal Records Check required.
  • Vulnerable Sector Screening required.
  • Consideration may be given to an equivalent combination of education and experience.
