Role and Responsibilities:

  1. Patient Care: Patient care is of upmost importance. Continuously monitor all patients in kennels. Alert technician or doctor if you notice any concerns. Sedated patients or patients recovering from surgery require closer monitoring. Provide water to all patients as appropriate (ensure you ask supervising technician first). Ensure dogs are walked – 11am and 2pm (double slip lead leash).
  2. Client Interaction: Always be respectful and polite with clients. Ensure you make eye-contact and acknowledge them. Be respectful and read their emotion – some clients are coming with very sick patients or coming to say goodbye to their beloved pet – mirror their tone as appropriate. Be friendly and professional at all times. Offer water for clients having to wait.
  3. Appointments: Help restrain patients as needed to assist doctors and technicians. Ensure you are always polite and respectful. Ensure to use enough restraint to keep everyone safe, but not excessive. Demonstrate compassion and show care for patients – help calm them, offer pets water if waiting awhile. Weigh dogs and document if appropriate. Ensure exam rooms are thoroughly cleaned and well stocked after each appointment. Ensure computers are on and Avimark is set up first thing each morning.
  4. Surgery: Set up and clean up after surgery. Prepare surgery packs and gowns. May include monitoring and documentation of surgical patients.
  5. Laboratory: Start tests, run blood work, keep white board up to date.
  6. Maintenance: Performing duties inside and outside of the clinic to maintain professional appearance. This may include but not limited to gardening, lawn maintenance, picking up garbage, small repairs, etc.
  7. Summarizing Records: Inputting past patient care into each patient file based on previous vaccine records.
  8. Medical Records: Scanning and filing. Copy or email patient records. Ensuring you are maintaining hospital standards by documenting interactions with patients – including when walked, whether urine/ BM was produced, if patients ate.
  9. Cleaning: Maintain appearance and cleanliness of the hospital. Participate in cleaning laundry and putting away clean items; kennel cleaning daily. Participate in day-end cleaning and initial day-end sheets. Periodically includes deeper cleaning, including dusting of front inventory shelves, cleaning out fridges and freezers or organization of other areas within the hospital or on the grounds.
  10. Re-stocking: Ensure daily use items, such as syringes, disinfectants, and pill containers are restocked and easily available.
  11. Continuing Education: Upgrade job position by participating in educational opportunities.
  12. Protocols: Adhere to hospital’s safety regulations and protocols.
  13. Participation: Participate in staff events, huddles and staff meetings.
  14. Team Player: Help others out, every day do something more than expected – whether it be for your team mate, client, manager or veterinarian.
  15. Change: The roles and expectations are always changing, new protocols being added, new systems implemented- it is expected that you will embrace change and strive to help Minden Animal Hospital be a success.
  16. Advocacy: While employed at Minden Animal Hospital you are an advocate for us at all times – at work and outside of it. It is expected that you will positively promote Minden Animal Hospital, in person, on social media/ online and act professional as their representative.

  • Ideal hours: 8:15a - 5:15p M-F No On Call, No Weekends/Holidays
  • Work remotely: No
  • Job Type: Full-time
  • Pay: $18.00-$20.00 per hour
  • Expected hours: 35 – 44 per week
  • Flexible language requirement: French not required
  • Experience: Customer Service: 1 year (preferred), Veterinary Assistant Graduate
