As a Camp Counselor, you will play a vital role in fostering the safety, well-being, and development of campers during both weekend and summer camps. You will create an inclusive, engaging, and supportive environment that encourages personal growth, cultural awareness, and collaboration, in alignment with community priorities. Your responsibilities will contribute to the positive development of campers while enhancing their skills and overall camp experience.

Key Responsibilities

Supervision and Safety:

  • Ensure the physical and emotional safety of all campers by supervising activities and promptly addressing any safety concerns during weekend and summer camps.
  • Provide a supportive and inclusive environment that encourages respect for diversity and promotes equity among campers.

Activity Development and Leadership:

  • Design, plan, and facilitate engaging activities, including team-building exercises, arts, STEM workshops, and outdoor recreational programs, tailored to both weekend and summer camps.
  • Implement structured daily and weekend schedules to establish routine, discipline, and opportunities for learning and fun.

Effective Communication and Collaboration:

  • Maintain clear and positive communication with campers, parents, and team members to address concerns and provide updates on camp activities.
  • Work collaboratively with other counselors to develop innovative programming that meets the unique needs and interests of campers across both camp formats.

Skill Building and Inclusion:

  • Promote skill-building activities that enhance campers' academic, social, and emotional development, ensuring these are accessible during weekend and summer sessions.
  • Actively encourage participation from visible minorities, racialized youth, and other underrepresented groups, creating a sense of belonging and representation in all camp programs.

Training and Professional Development:

  • Participate in regular staff training sessions to enhance leadership and career-related skills applicable to both weekend and summer camp settings.
  • Utilize learned skills to deliver engaging, high-quality programming that aligns with the camp's mission.

Conflict Resolution and Behavioral Management:

  • Address conflicts and disciplinary issues constructively during weekend and summer camp activities, fostering a safe and respectful environment.
  • Provide emotional support and guidance to campers, helping them develop resilience and interpersonal skills.

Health and Safety Compliance:

  • Administer First Aid or CPR if necessary and ensure adherence to all safety protocols and camp policies in both weekend and summer camps.
  • Maintain cleanliness, organization, and safety of all campsite and activity areas.

Community Engagement:

  • Assist in building strong connections between campers, staff, and the broader community by incorporating community-focused events and initiatives into both weekend and summer camp programs.
  • Highlight the camp’s contributions to community priorities, such as mental health, youth empowerment, and diversity.

Other Duties:

  • Support the Camp Director with additional tasks as needed to ensure the smooth operation of both weekend and summer camps.
