The Camp Counsellor will be responsible for helping to develop and facilitate camp programming for children and youth who may have a diagnosis of AD(H)D, ASD, anxiety disorder, OCD, or learning disabilities.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise children and youth at summer day camp
  • Actively lead and participate in all aspects of day camp programming
  • The Camp Counsellor’s tasks and responsibilities are focused on the children and youth that they are working with at camp; this includes facilitating crafts, games, and activities
  • The Camp Counsellor supervises the children and youth in all aspects of the camp program
  • The Camp Counsellor may be expected to work with larger or smaller groups of children and youth; they may also work one-on-one with a child as needed.

  • Manage challenging behavior using non-punitive strategies
  • Demonstrated teamwork and leadership skills with the ability to problem solve and find resolutions to issues/conflict
  • Ability to actively engage and lead activities for a large group (10 children)

Qualifications:

  • Child and Youth Care Diploma, Bachelor of Education, Behavioral Science/Behavioral Psychology Diploma, Social Service Worker Diploma graduate or student of, or equivalent
  • Current CPR/First Aid Certificate (Standard First Aid/CPR Level C)
  • Up to Date CPIC/Police Check with vulnerable sector check (within last 6 months)
  • CPI training or equivalent
  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience working as a camp counsellor, or related experience working with children.
