The Camp Leader is responsible for their assigned room, the camp counsellor supporting them, any volunteers assigned to that room and the campers assigned to that room. The Camp Leader will develop and facilitate camp programming for children and youth who may have a diagnosis of AD(H)D, ASD, anxiety disorder, OCD, or learning disabilities.

Responsibilities:

  • The Camp Leader supervises the children and youth in all aspects of the camp program. The Camp Leader may be expected to work with larger or smaller groups of children and youth; they may also work one-on-one with a child as needed.
  • The Camp Leader acts as a positive role model for the children and youth at camp. This role involves interaction with parents and guardians daily.
  • The Camp Leader will ensure that the camp environment is safe, clean, and inviting.
  • The Camp Leader will assist with the development and implementation of a weekly schedule for their camp group. This role will include the maintenance of accurate program records, including incident reports, logbook documentation, and daily attendance.
  • The Camp Leader will understand all emergency procedures associated with the camp program and will enforce safety guidelines.
  • The Camp Leader will guide program volunteers to develop leadership and counselling skill development.
  • Supervise children and youth at summer day camp
  • Actively lead and participate in all aspects of day camp programming

  • Demonstrated teamwork and leadership skills with the ability to problem solve and find resolutions to issues/conflict
  • Ability to actively engage and lead activities for a large group (10 children)

Qualifications:

  • Child and Youth Care Diploma, Bachelor of Education, Behavioural Science/Behavioural Psychology Diploma, Social Service Worker Diploma gradate or student of/or equivalent
  • Current CPR/First Aid Certificate (Standard First Aid/CPR Level C)
  • Up to Date CPIC/Police Check with vulnerable sector check (within last 6 months)
  • CPI training or equivalent
  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience working as a camp counsellor, or related experience working with children
