We are presently inviting applications for the position of:
- Physical Activity Leader
- Full-Time Position (8-week contract)
- $19/hour
Extend-A-Family Kingston is a cutting-edge organization exploring and integrating innovative ways to support people with a developmental disability. Physical activity is an important factor in overall health and well-being. Extend-A-Family Kingston uses unique equipment and innovation to provide new and exciting experiences to our summer camp participants. The Physical Activity Leader will support EAFK participants in joining in safe, adaptive and barrier-free physical activities.
Under the direction of the Manager of Community Programs, the Physical Activity Leader is responsible for leading physical activity instruction for EAFK program participants on an individual and group basis. This position will instruct individuals and groups by modelling appropriate behaviours and actions and will motivate and encourage by providing coaching and positive feedback.
The Physical Activity Leader will:
- Collaborate with Extend-A-Family Kingston’s Community Coaches and Camp Counsellors to deliver programs that remove barriers to sport and play.
- Implement programs around EAFK’s unique equipment and initiatives, including the Jays Care Foundation Challenger Baseball program, a virtual golf simulator, and an indoor portable archery range.
- Provide and create instructions, demonstrations, and communications on the best use of the equipment.
- Provide evaluation and feedback on the programs.
- Provide continuous improvements, assessments, and changes throughout the program.
Position Requirements :
- We are looking for individuals who are energetic, positive role models, safety-conscious, and who have a genuinely compassionate and caring nature.
- Police Record Check - CPIC including Vulnerable Sector Screening.
- Proof of all required doses of a COVID-19 vaccine approved by Health Canada.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
- Ability to work cooperatively with a team.
- Strong program delivery skills.
Assets:
- Experience working with individuals with disabilities.
- Standard First Aid, CPR
- Sign language (ASL)
- Under the legislative requirements of the French Language Services Act, French language competency is an asset.
