Financial Controller - Springer Group of Companies

We are a well-established and respected family-owned real estate investment and development business based in Kingston. 

The Financial Controller will:

• Direct financial activities, such as planning, procurement, and investments for all or part of an organization.
• Supervise employees performing financial reporting, accounting, billing, collections, payroll, and budgeting duties.
• Coordinate and direct the financial planning, budgeting, procurement, or investment activities of all or part of an organization.
• Monitor financial activities and details, such as cash flow and reserve levels, to ensure that all legal and regulatory requirements are met.
• Develop internal control policies, guidelines, and procedures for activities such as budget administration, cash and credit management, and accounting.
• Monitor and evaluate the performance of accounting and other financial staff, recommending and implementing personnel actions, such as promotions and dismissals.

Key Responsibilities:

• Oversee and delegate all accounting operations, including quarterly and year-end financials
• Oversee and review annual budgets, forecasts, and variance analysis
• Monitor and report on project budgets and financial performance
• Maintain corporate records and intercompany loan balances
• Administer payroll, tax filings (HST, EHT, WSIB), and year-end reconciliations
• Manage commercial lease agreements and annual cost adjustments
• Provide financial analysis on mortgage and loan activities
• Liaise with external partners, including accountants, lawyers, banks and auditors
• Support ownership with timely financial insights as required
• Ensure the maintenance of accounting controls

Technical Skills and Technology Used:

• Enterprise resource planning ERP software: Oracle Hyperion, NetSuite ERP, Microsoft Dynamics, Oracle JD Edwards EnterpriseOne, Oracle PeopleSoft Financials
• Accounting software: Job costing software, Sage MIP Fund Accounting, Sage 50 Accounting, Hyperion Enterprise, Fund accounting software
• Data base user interface and query software: Microsoft Access, Structured query language SQL, Yardi
• Financial analysis software: Microsoft FRx, Oracle Hyperion Planning, Oracle E-Business Suite Financials
• Spreadsheet software: IBM Lotus 1-2-3, Microsoft Excel, Corel QuattroPro

Qualifications:

• CPA designation
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in accounting/finance; real estate industry preferred
• Strong organizational, analytical, and project management skills
• Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines independently
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office; Yardi software experience is an asset
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
