Downtown Kingston BIA is a not-for-profit organization governed by an elected Board of Management. The operations are led by an Executive Director who is responsible for a small team dedicated to the continued growth and prosperity of downtown Kingston.

Job Details:
The Outreach Support Worker position is a 40-week temporary contract in collaboration with the Downtown Kingston BIA's Welcoming Streets program and St. George’s Cathedral's Lunch by George meal program. The primary objective is to establish trust and positive connections with marginalized individuals and support those facing challenges related to addiction, homelessness, and mental health. This role requires collaboration with various stakeholders and social service systems to facilitate access to essential services and resources.
Responsibilities:
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with social service agencies, City of Kingston Bylaw officers, and Kingston Police Services.
- Respond to concerns raised by business owners, police, and the public, engaging with vulnerable individuals and connecting them with appropriate professional services.
- Advocate for individuals by assisting them in accessing essential resources such as food, housing, financial assistance, and mental health supports.
- Contribute to the development of communication tools, including print and signage materials, to effectively communicate program objectives and resources.
Work Environment:
- Outreach work (approximately 70%): Engage with guests at the Lunch by George meal program, and operate alongside the Welcoming Streets Stewards in the downtown core. Extensive walking and mobility are required.
- Interaction with individuals and businesses: Provide support, guidance, and assistance within different businesses and agencies in the downtown core.
- Office time (approximately 30%): Shared office space with BIA staff, accessible via stairs and elevator.
- Dress code: Dress appropriately for weather and job-related tasks.
- Schedule: 20 hours per week, Monday – Friday.
Requirements:
- Proven ability to establish trust and positive connections with marginalized individuals.
- Previous experience in supporting individuals facing challenges related to addiction, homelessness, and mental health.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Collaborative mindset and ability to work effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders.
