The Academic Engagement and Support Coordinator plays a vital role in helping new students navigate the Faculty of Arts and Science, easing their transition from high school to university while also preparing them for upper-year studies. Key responsibilities include overseeing the Peer Academic Support Service (PASS) program and serving as the primary supervisor for the student staff and volunteers. In consultation with the Academic Advising Lead, the AE&S Coordinator designs, plans, and implements both proactive and responsive academic support initiatives that foster first-year students' success, guiding them from matriculation through Plan Selection.

This position coordinates key aspects of academic programs including implementing the educational agenda and goals of the program. This position acts as a first point of contact regarding academic program advice and selections, student and/or participant program experience, and problem resolution. This position provides advice and recommendations for changes to improve program functioning. This position directs, allocates and supervises the work of other staff.

What you will do

  • Coordinates key aspects of academic programs including implementing the educational agenda and goals of the program.
  • Coordinates the development and maintenance of the program portal.
  • Acts as a first point of contact regarding academic program advice and selections, student and/or participant program experience, and problem resolution.
  • Provides program support including registration, scheduling, evaluations, tracking progress, and performing academic audits.
  • Provides advice and recommendations for changes to improve program functioning.
  • Provides administrative support to the program including preparing correspondence, organizing itineraries, booking facilities, ordering catering, planning extra-curricular activities, maintaining records, and preparing degree lists.
  • Directs, allocates and supervises the work of other staff.
  • Coordinate and prepare marketing materials.
  • Supports recruiting efforts by attending events.
  • Other duties as required in support of the department and/or unit.

Required Education

  • Four-Year Bachelor Degree or equivalent.

Required Experience

  • More than 2 years and up to and including 3 years of experience.
  • Experience working at a post-secondary education institution considered an asset.
  • Experience working with diverse populations/equity deserving groups considered an asset.
  • Experience advising students considered an asset.
  • Experience developing, coordinating, and implementing student development and/or student experience programs considered an asset.

Required Licenses and Certifications

  • Satisfactory Criminal Records Check required.
  • Vulnerable Sector Screening required.
  • A volunteer administrator certificate is considered an asset.

Consideration may be given to an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Assess the suitability of job candidates and recommend the most appropriate person for hire.
  • Monitor and assess output and the quality of work from team members and recommend need for formal training or development plans to management and identify possible performance and/or disciplinary issues.
