Kingston Literacy & Skills is a non-profit community organization. With professional, knowledgeable staff and dedicated volunteers, we deliver essential skills upgrading, workforce preparation, and English Language instruction to youth (18+) and adults in Kingston and the surrounding communities.

We are currently seeking Letters of Interest for multiple opportunities as a Targeted Training Facilitator teaching short-term skills courses in our Literacy and Basic Skills program. As a Targeted Training Facilitator, you will provide in-person direct instruction to learners at our Kingston location. Targeted Training Facilitator must be comfortable engaging with those who have limited essential skills (literacy, writing, math, digital skills) and/or have limited ability to communicate in English. All instruction is delivered in English. Targeted Training courses will vary in length, time of day, and day of week; many courses average 4-6 weeks, 3-4 hours per week. Facilitators will be provided with a curriculum but should be able to adjust and create activities as needed to keep learners engaged.

We are seeking Targeted Training Facilitators for one or more of the following training courses:

  • Introductory Digital Skills for English as a Second Language (ESL) Learners
  • Pre-Personal Support Worker (PSW)
  • Food Services and Kitchen Safety Basics/pre-Safe Food Handling
  • Customer Service Basics
  • Basic Math for the Skilled Trades
  • Introduction to Retail and Point of Sale
  • Clerical Skills Basics

If you have experience in one of these course areas and an interest in teaching others, submit a Letter of Interest that clearly outlines your qualifications as a Targeted Training Instructor and your general availability.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum one year of previous experience teaching or training youth (18+) and/or adults including experience developing lessons or training plans, modifying learning activities, and/or planning for adult learner engagement
  • Demonstrated experience/expertise in the course material to be taught
  • Experience working with barriered individuals in a diverse environment and the highest level of respect for principles of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion
  • English language proficiency of CLB 6 or higher or native English speaker
  • Clear Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check (CPIC)
  • Current authorization to work in Canada
Considered an Asset:

  • Skilled Trades experience
  • Previous experience working others who speak English as a second or additional language
  • Current WHIMS certificate; if not available, training will be required/provided by KL&S

Salary: $25.00 per hour, instruction and planning time.

This is an in-person instruction. Hours of work will vary based on need and there is no regular schedule or guarantee of hours for Contract Facilitators.
