We’re currently seeking an Accounting Manager to join our team and oversee financial operations across Anchor Concrete Products Ltd. and its affiliated companies, including Anchor Concrete Realty (2001) Ltd. and Lodestar Structures Inc.

Job Overview

The Accounting Manager is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the Accounting Department and ensuring financial accuracy, compliance, and timely reporting. This role supports short- and long-term financial planning, oversees budgeting and forecasting, and collaborates with senior leadership to drive data-informed decisions that support the company’s financial health and strategic growth.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership & Oversight

  • Lead and mentor the accounting team, ensuring clear delegation, cross-training, and alignment with company values
  • Foster a departmental culture that values integrity, accountability, and continuous improvement
  • Coordinate accounting functions across ACP, AR, and Lodestar

Financial Reporting & Compliance

  • Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
  • Ensure compliance with Canadian GAAP and statutory requirements
  • Manage internal and external audits and coordinate with external accountants for annual tax filings
  • Prepare financial documentation and supporting schedules for SR&ED claims

Budgeting & Forecasting

  • Develop and manage annual operating budgets and capital plans
  • Monitor and report on variances, KPIs, and business unit performance
  • Analyze financial risks and provide strategic guidance on mitigation
Cost Accounting & Inventory Management

  • Oversee inventory accuracy and costing processes
  • Perform cost rollups, adjust standard costs, and review BOM variances
  • Collaborate with Operations and Sales teams on product costing and profitability analysis

Cash Flow & Insurance

  • Monitor cash flow and working capital requirements
  • Evaluate and manage banking relationships and foreign exchange requirements
  • Maintain insurance coverage and conduct annual risk assessments

Payroll & Accounts Oversight

  • Supervise payroll processing and related reconciliations
  • Ensure accurate general ledger entries for payroll, A/P, and A/R
  • Review vendor payments, journal entries, and financial reconciliations

ERP Systems & Process Improvement

  • Oversee financial systems and recommend process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy
  • Support ERP upgrades or changes in collaboration with IT and other departments
  • Ensure accuracy and completeness of financial records and controls

Qualifications

Education

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in accounting
  • CPA designation (completed or in progress) is strongly preferred

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in accounting roles
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing or construction environment is a strong asset
  • Demonstrated experience in budgeting, reporting, and leading a team
Technical Skills

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and ERP systems (Titan experience an asset)
  • Solid understanding of Canadian GAAP and CRA/WSIB/EHT reporting
  • Familiarity with SR&ED reporting processes and R&D accounting
