We are currently recruiting for a temporary, full time (37.5 hours per week) Therapy Assistant in Augmentative Communication Services. This position is expected to begin as soon as possible and end in December 2026. The designated office for this position is London. Travel within Elgin, Middlesex, Huron, Perth, Grey and Bruce counties to provide services to clients may be required.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist Speech Language Pathologists and Occupational Therapists with preparation of materials for client assessment and training;
  • Program augmentative communication equipment;
  • Provide direct intervention and training in the use of Augmentative Communication systems under the supervision of a registered Speech Language Pathologist or Occupational Therapist as per CASLPO and/or COTO guidelines;
  • Develop and construct communication displays using software such as Boardmaker under the direction of a registered Speech and Language Pathologist;
  • Assist in providing education and awareness activities regarding Augmentative and Alternative communication;
  • Participate in professional practice activities with other AAC Clinics across Ontario.

Qualifications:

  • Graduate from a recognized Communicative Disorder Assistant program;
  • Completion of the Centralized Equipment Pool Augmentative and Alternative Communication 12-week course is preferred;
  • Working knowledge of child language development, communication and play;
  • Experience interacting with individuals who have a physical disability and/or those who do not speak verbally;
  • Experience working with a paediatric population and with Augmentative Communication are considered assets;
  • Demonstrated familiarity and experience with computers and technology and initiative to learn new technological systems as required;
  • Excellent communication, organizational, interpersonal and problem-solving skills;
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a variety of team settings;
  • Ability to be self directed within the parameters of the role;
  • Technical and programming skills with computers and communication devices is an asset;
  • Computer proficiency including MS Office Suite 2010 and videoconferencing software (ex. Teams);
  • Valid Ontario driver’s licence and access to a vehicle are required;
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification.
