Within the Department of Family Medicine, the Queen's Family Health Team (QFHT) is a multidisciplinary team of health care professionals who provide primary health care services to the Kingston community. As an academic teaching centre, the Department trains future family physicians and conducts research in issues of primary health care delivery. QFHT is comprised of a number of medical practices and provides for a diverse, client centred work environment for all its employees. QFHT provides primary health services to rostered patients while modeling safe, efficient and collaborative clinical processes to Family Medicine residents and other health professional learners.
This position acts as the first point of contact for patients regarding appointments and referrals, and escalates issues in cases with infectious disease, mental health issues, distress, emergency care and/or security issues. This position provides clerical and administrative support for the clinic including coordinating specialized requests for record documentation, transfer, and insurance requirements. This position also assists with processing electronic medical records, creating patient billing invoices and documenting data in electronic medical records.

What you will do
- Acts as the first point of contact for patients regarding appointments and referrals, and escalates issues in cases with infectious disease, mental health issues, distress, emergency care and/or security issues.
- Provides clerical and administrative support for the clinic including processing medical records, coordinating specialized requests for record documentation, transfer and insurance requirements.
- Creates patient charts and ensures patient information is stored in a confidential and secure manner.
- Coordinates referrals and tests, and advises patients of test requirements.
- Provides administrative and clerical support to senior staff.
- Maintains records including generating billing reports, and setting up and reconciling accounts.
- Maintains clinic schedules including booking initial and follow-up appointments.
- Perform administrative duties such as sorting and distributing incoming mail, preparing outgoing mail, photocopying/faxing, receiving courier deliveries, distributing and retrieving information, updating and maintaining file system.
- Orders office supplies and ensures adequate product inventory.
Required Education
- Two-Year Community College Diploma.
Required Experience
- More than 1 year and up to and including 2 years of experience.
Consideration may be given to an equivalent combination of education and experience.
