Reporting to the Director of Student Life, the Access & Inclusion Success Coordinator plays a key role in supporting equity-deserving students who enter Queen’s University through access and inclusion pathways, such as the Promise Scholars, Former Youth in Care, and first-generation students. Working collaboratively with campus partners, the Coordinator delivers holistic, responsive programming and services tailored to students’ academic, personal, and career development needs.

As a primary point of contact, the Coordinator provides inclusive support, triages inquiries, and connects students with appropriate university resources. This role focuses on building relationships, assessing student needs, and implementing timely, purposeful programming to enhance student well-being, achievement, and retention. The Coordinator also works closely with stakeholders across the university to ensure a coordinated, student-centered approach to support services.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Design, implement, and oversee holistic support programs for equity-deserving student populations (e.g., Promise Scholars, Former Youth in Care, and first-generation students), addressing academic, financial, career, and personal development needs.
  • Engage with campus and community partners including academic advisors, Student Wellness Services, Career Services, and Financial Aid, to deliver integrated services and support systems
  • Conduct regular 1:1 advising appointments with students. Provide initial academic guidance and referrals to appropriate faculty/program advisors, services, and supports on campus
  • Assess and triage high-risk student situations, escalating or referring to appropriate university or community services as necessary.
  • In collaboration with Career Services, support guaranteed employment initiatives by identifying student interests and skills, connecting with campus employers, assisting with hiring processes, and addressing employment-related concerns.
  • Lead and coordinate workshops, events, and initiatives to enhance student engagement, inclusion, and success; chair cross-institutional committees focused on scholar support.
  • Act as a key contact for new students, working with University Admissions & Recruitment and Student Awards to ensure a smooth transition and support recruitment efforts.
  • Advise faculty and staff on student transition, equity, and inclusion issues, promoting inclusive practices and student-centered approaches.
  • Develop, review, and maintain operational documents, statistics, and case records; assess program outcomes and report monthly updates.
  • Participate in the development, implementation, and evaluation of strategic initiatives, long-term planning, and inclusive support models.
  • Hire, train, schedule, and supervise student staff; provide coaching and performance feedback and escalate performance concerns to Director when necessary.
  • Develop and manage program budgets in consultation with the Director, ensuring resources align with departmental goals.
  • Stay current in student development, identity development, and EDI research; represent the Student Experience Office on internal committees and at professional events.
  • Support the broader goals of the Student Experience Office as required.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATION:

  • Minimum of an undergraduate degree coupled with 3 years’ experience in a similar environment.
  • Experience in counseling/advising/supporting/coaching, preferably university students.
  • Knowledge of the needs and experiences of first-generation and other equity-deserving students, with specific understanding of the complexity of cultural adjustment processes for these students entering university.
  • Knowledge of university programs and courses of study, and the general structure and operation of universities.
  • Familiarity with university life and activities and knowledge of university policies and priorities would be considered an asset.
  • Experience with program development and delivery
  • Knowledge of student development theory, including experiential learning theory and practices
  • Satisfactory Criminal Records Check and Vulnerable Sector Screening required.
  • Consideration will be given to an equivalent combination of education and experience.

SPECIAL SKILLS:

  • Excellent interpersonal and counselling skills, with an ability to empathize and communicate effectively with students and the university community.
  • Proven judgement and discretion with triaging and assessing complex, confidential and sensitive situations.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, including the ability to collaborate and work effectively in small and large groups both within and outside the university.
  • Ability to apply and provide guidance to campus partners on the application of an anti-oppression and intersectional approach to program development and student supports including awareness of current issues faced by equity-deserving students.
  • Ability to network and collaborate to build partnerships with diverse students, faculty, staff, and the community.
  • The ability to organize, plan and self-initiate both short and long-term goals.
  • Strong initiative and the ability to work with limited day-to-day supervision, while recognizing when it is appropriate to consult and collaborate with others
  • High degree of flexibility and ability to multi-task in a busy environment with excellent attention to detail.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with an ability to multi-task on a regular basis.
