The Enhanced Support Services Worker-Provides consultation, crisis support, individual and/or group support services to children/youth and families receiving services from the agency through out of home services. Participates in planning for transition a child/youth may have within alternate care placements, the spectrum of reunification and permanency plans. Assist in strategies to increase attachment relationships between children, their caregivers and family members as well as the management of the behavioural and emotional needs of the child/youth. Provide services to assist adolescents in their practical and emotional life skills development as they move towards adulthood. Assist in program development and collaborates with community partners. Provides education and training opportunities to employees, foster families, family members and community partners who support children in receipt of out of home services. Supervise and support visiting/drop off arrangements between children and families and assists parents in learning specific skills related to the care of their child. Knowledge of needs, services, and behaviour management approaches to support children and youth with complexity of needs. Ability to engage and support identity centered planning with children/youth who have neurodiversity and developmental delays, experience challenges with their mental health, substance use, and trauma.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum College diploma; Child and Youth Care/Behavioural Science/Social Service Worker, etc.
  • Knowledge of Child, Youth and Family Services Act
  • Strong Knowledge of and understanding of anti-racism and anti-oppression principles and ability to incorporate these in the day-to-day practice (such knowledge can be from both lived or work experience).
  • Understanding of and sensitivity to the experiences of First Nations, Inuit, Métis peoples in Canada, and the impact of the legacy of Residential Schools and the “Sixties Scoop” upon Indigenous peoples.
  • Knowledge of diversity, equity and inclusion and the intersecting issues that impact marginalized identities, which can include knowledge from lived experience. With particular emphasis on understanding the experiences of children and youth in receipt of home services.
  • Knowledge of anti-black racism, oppressive practices and its impact on equity deserving communities in our region, knowledge of child protection legislation (CYFSA) tools (Eligibility Spectrum), standards, and practice framework (Signs of Safety)
  • Relevant child welfare/clinical experience including a sound knowledge of the needs of children who are removed from their parents/primary caregivers, trauma informed interventions (including generational trauma) and evidence based practice
  • An open and collaborative work style that promotes partnerships and builds trust.
  • Ability to align vision and strategy and framing the strategic plan and priorities to achieve desired outcomes. Able to connect vision and strategy to daily practice.
  • Effectively develop & implement strategies to assist in identified areas of risk or concern building upon existing strengths.
  • Excellent skills in providing services towards enhancing understanding and skill development for caregivers
  • Bilingualism (fluency in French) is an asset
  • Excellent negotiation and crisis intervention skills
  • Able to work independently and effectively, as a member of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Possess skills to effectively problem solve and work collaboratively with others
  • Excellent organization and time management skills
  • Possess a valid driver’s license with access to a reliable vehicle
  • Computer literacy
  • Flexible hours of work are required such as working early mornings and/or evenings /weekends
