External Posting - Title: Family Counsellor
Position: Full-Time
Position Function: The Family Counsellor Position provides initial and continued contact, assessment and referral, short term individual, couple, and family counselling and /or crisis intervention, group work, program development, and educational services. Services involve working with military families. This includes, but is not limited to, family violence, child abuse, critical incidents, suicidal ideation and depression, anxiety, bereavement, marital issues, separation and divorce issues, special needs, behaviour disorders, family of origin dysfunction, substance abuse, blended families, and other military lifestyle issues.
DESIRED MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in relevant Mental Health Field (e.g. Social Work, Counselling, Psychology) with two years of related clinical experience (mandatory requirement);
- Registered with the appropriate college, such as Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers or College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario;
- Experience in providing counselling services for individuals, couples, children and families;
- Proven experience working directly with families, groups and communities;
- Knowledge of local and national resources (an asset);
- Exceptional understanding of the unique military lifestyle issues facing CAF families;
- Knowledge of various mental health concerns including, but not limited to, anxiety, depression, grief, loss etc.;
- Ability to create safety plans and appropriately complete suicidal ideation assessments;
- Excellent written and oral skills in English and French (an asset);
- Excellent computer skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite;
- Excellent organizational skills;
- Abides by all health and safety policies, programs and regulations and reports any observed or potential hazards to Supervisor immediately.
- Current CPIC including Vulnerable Sector Check
- Must be eligible to undergo Department of National Defence reliability screening; continued employment is conditional on obtaining the appropriate reliability clearance.
WORK CONDITIONS, SALARY AND BENEFITS
- 37.5 hours per week
- Salary range: $58,936.00 to $66,459.99 per annum
