Key Responsibilities:
The Development Officer is responsible for the review of development, alteration and interference applications made under the Conservation Authorities Act (Ontario Regulation 41/24: Prohibited Activities, Exemptions and Permits) as well as enforcement of the regulation throughout Cataraqui Conservation’s jurisdiction. The Development Officer works as part of a multidisciplinary technical team to:
• Review applications and prepare permits pursuant to Ontario Regulation 41/24: Prohibited Activities, Exemptions and Permits.
• Monitor compliance and conduct enforcement activities under the Regulation, including negotiating restoration compliance for enforcement files and pursuing enforcement matters through legal action as necessary.
• Provide technical advice to municipal partners, community organizations and members of the public.
Qualifications:
• A degree in physical geography, engineering (e.g. civil, water resources, geotechnical, etc.), environmental sciences, or a related field.
• A minimum of two (2) years of relevant work experience.
• Understanding of natural hazards (e.g. flooding and erosion), shoreline processes and natural heritage features (e.g. wetlands).
• Familiarity with planning, environmental, and other related legislation (e.g. Planning Act, Public Lands Act, Provincial Offences Act).
• Excellent communication / client service skills.
• A strong work ethic and a proven ability to work both collaboratively and independently.
• Proficiency with the full suite of Microsoft Office products, and GIS software.
• The ability to inspect locations with rough terrain and in inclement weather.
• A valid class “G” driver’s license and a clean driving record.
• Asset: Provincial Offenses Officer designation.
