A Brief Overview
The Coordinator, Youth Program & Community Engagement is responsible for the growth, planning, delivery, financial management and risk assessment of safe, sustainable, supportive, and innovative children and youth programming (i.e., summer camps, school sports days/field trips, PA Day and holiday programs, community engagement initiatives) offered by Athletics and Recreation (A&R) to the campus and greater Kingston community. The role will research tends and opportunities for the development and implementation of child and youth programming, and also lead current and new community engagement initiatives by building internal and external relationships, developing and instituting programs that increase awareness, engagement, and support for A&R programs (i.e., School day games, student-athlete school visit programs, community minor sport programs, such as Junior Gaels programming, and new innovative revenue generating initiatives).The role will plan for and prepare the program delivery staff teams to lead and delivery the breadth and scope of programs, events and initiatives, including staff orientation, training, supervision, and assessment. Shared goals of contributing to campus and community wellbeing, physical literacy, and revenue-generation are integral to the role.
This position acts as the primary resource person for questions and information regarding the community program, and provides information and support to researchers and research assistants involved in programs. This position coordinates community program events, participates in service delivery planning, and investigates opportunities for new/revised community programs.
The schedule for this position requires the incumbent to work variable hours on a regular basis, including evenings and weekends. This position is subject to the Averaging provisions of the USW Local 2010 Collective Agreement.
The schedule for this position requires the incumbent to work frequent early mornings, evenings and weekends, according to program or area needs.
What you will do
- Acts as the primary resource person for initial questions and information regarding the community program, a provides information and support to researchers and research assistants involved in programs.
- Participates in planning activities, by investigating opportunities for new/revised community programs including conducting surveys, identifying trends, prepares reports, and liaising program users to understand program needs.
- Participates in service delivery planning including orientation, education and facilitation.
- Uses information gathered during planning to revise current programming.
- Prepares weekly tracking reports on outreach opportunities and results, relative to goals, targets or performance metrics.
- Coordinates marketing and communications material for the community program.
- Coordinates, monitors and updates information on social media platforms.
- Maintains information aids related to legislation, bylaws and local trends relevant to the program.
- Maintains and updates databases of study participant information.
- Support volunteer recruitment efforts by coordinating events and other activities.
- Coordinates community program events including venue booking, invitations, agenda, speakers, speaking notes, travel, and event budgets.
- Prepares camp/activity lesson plans and trains staff on the delivery of programs and outcomes.
- Participates in aspects of the camps and day programs, including annual planning, promotion, scheduling, administration, staffing, equipment planning and purchasing, quality control, safety plans, and communication protocols with parents/guardians.
- Prepares and delivers inclusive outreach workshops and/or information sessions.
- Other duties as required in support of the department and/or unit.
Required Education
- Four-Year Bachelor Degree or equivalent.
Required Experience
- More than 3 years and up to and including 5 years of experience.
- Experience in planning and/or managing projects considered an asset.
- Experience developing, coordinating and producing promotional and marketing material considered an asset.
- Experience with software and web technologies considered an asset (e.g., ServiceNow, Customer Relationship Management (CRM), other software packaging, etc.).
- Knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, policies, standards and/or guidelines considered an asset.
- Experience in client and/or customer experience functions considered an asset.
- Required Licenses and Certifications
- Certification in first aid training considered an asset.
- G Driver's Licence required.
- Satisfactory Criminal Records Check required.
- Vulnerable Sector Screening required.
- Consideration may be given to an equivalent combination of education and experience.
