Estimation Student - Tomlinson Group of Companies

Founded in 1952, Tomlinson is a family owned and operated business that has grown from a one single-axle dump truck to Eastern Canada’s leader in environmental, construction and transportation infrastructure services.

R.W. Tomlinson is seeking to hire a motivated and detail-oriented Estimating Student from May to August 2025 to join our Estimation Team. This role would be a full-time position working in the office.

Location: 650 Fortune Crescent, Kingston ON

What will you do?

• Road Building and Grading
• Heavy Civil/Structures
• Sewer and Watermain
• Site Development
• Assist estimating team with reviewing bid requests (RFP, RFQ, RFT) and developing bid strategies.
• Understand & utilize Tomlinson’s quantity takeoff software.
• Perform quantity surveys and review with lead Estimator or Chief Estimator.
• Assist lead Estimator in solicitation for subcontractor and supplier pricing.
• Prepare estimates utilizing Tomlinson’s estimating software in collaboration with lead Estimator
• Compare & analyze subcontractor and supplier quotes.
• Prepare bid schedules
• Assist with preparation of handover documents to project teams
• Proudly support the Tomlinson team in growing and maintain relationships with trade partners, consultants & clients.
• Attend job showings and review site conditions

The ideal candidate looks something like this:

• Currently enrolled in second or third year of Engineering or Construction related program
• Has a Valid Driver's License and access to reliable transportation
• Able to work from Monday to Friday from 7:00am to 5:00pm
• Able to work in both office and construction site settings
• Driven and motivated to make an impact in the construction industry
• Able to work independently with a bias towards action
• Able to adapt and think systematically and conceptualize and problem-solve complex and detailed issues
• Able to effectively communicate in various environments
• Driven to learn from others and apply teachings to a real-world setting
• Prior field construction experience will be considered an asset
