Primary Duties
Reporting to the Supervisor, Water and Wastewater Treatment Operations, this position will work as part of the team in the Water and Wastewater Operations department. The successful incumbent will work at multiple treatment facilities to provide support to treatment operators as well as general building and grounds-keeping maintenance. Primary duties will be operation of the Quench Buggy, mobile water treatment which is used at special events throughout the City of Kingston, supporting business outreach initiatives such as the Fats, Oils & Grease Program, and compiling/updating water treatment plant drawings. General building and grounds maintenance is also a job requirement. Maintenance duties may include grass cutting, weed trimming, painting, window cleaning, floor sweeping etc.. Some data entry using a computer will be required.
Education, Certification and Other Qualifications Required
• Enrolled in a 2 to 3-year Diploma program from an accredited college in an Environmental / Civil Engineering field or equivalent.
• OIT certification in water/wastewater operations considered an asset.
• Experience with AUTOCAD/Other design tools considered an asset
• Passport to Safety Certificate, considered an asset.
• First Aid/CPR desirable.
• Good communication skills.
• Motivated, demonstrated initiative and ability to work independently with minimum direction.
• Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Suite of products.
Special Working Conditions/Conditions of Employment
• Full-time student at a recognized post-secondary educational institution, and returning to full time attendance in the Fall of 2026.
• Completion of a Criminal Record Check at the employee's own expense, and to the satisfaction of Utilities Kingston.
• Valid Class "G" driver's license required, however, a vehicle or transportation from site to site will be provided during the day.
• Student must be willing and able to work in adverse weather conditions as required.
• This position may require availability to work evenings and weekends.
