Primary Duties

Reporting to the Supervisor, Hydro Operations and taking direction from the Lead Electrical Engineer, the successful student’s primary duties will include:

  • Responsible for data collection including asset condition data and system characteristics (voltage, current, power quality etc.).
  • Update and/or create drawings for electrical layouts, single line diagrams and schematics.
  • Assist engineers with design revisions in AutoCAD.
  • Assist with distribution planning, electrification. historic load data analysis, load forecasting, economic evaluation and other calculations as required.
  • Assist with visual field inspections of electrical assets during construction especially civil work (electrical ducts, pole holes, anchors, etc.).
  • Prepare, maintain and file work orders, inspection reports, maintenance logs and other documentation as required.
  • Assist with review of DER applications.
  • Assist with preparing electric distribution material purchasing specifications.
  • Assist with compliance documentation for Electrical Distribution Safety Regulation (EDSR) and OEB regulatory requirements.

Education, Certification and Other Qualifications Required

  • Currently enrolled in an Electrical Engineering Undergraduate or Electrical Engineering Technology program.
  • Strong interest in power systems and utility operations.
  • Basic knowledge of electrical principles and safety practices.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, experience with Sharepoint, enterprise Databases, electric modeling applications (CYME, ETAP, DESS, etc.), AutoCAD, GIS, FME and Python is an asset.

Special Working Conditions/Conditions of Employment

  • Full-time student at a recognized post-secondary educational institution and returning to full time attendance in the Fall of 2026.
  • Completion of a Criminal Record Check at the employee's own expense, and to the satisfaction of Utilities Kingston.
  • Valid Class 'G' driver's license.
