Location: SDG Counties Administration Building + travel within SDG Counties

Term: May to August 2026 (approximate 4-month term)

Pay Rate: $24.00 per hour

Hours of Work: 35 hours per week (generally Wednesday to Sunday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with flexibility to support local events outside normal operating hours)

Summary:

Join SDG Tourism as a Student Lead and gain valuable leadership and experience promoting the United Counties of Stormont, Dundas, and Glengarry! In this role, you will oversee a team of student Tourism Ambassadors/Tour Guides, ensuring they are supported and confident in their responsibilities while engaging with visitors on active recreation trails, at community events, festivals, and local businesses. You will also contribute to social media campaigns, update the tourism website, and assist with blog content to showcase the region.

In addition, you will work at the Historic SDG Jail, supporting the student team in delivering guided tours that make each visitor’s experience safe, interesting, and memorable. You will oversee event facilitation, assist with rental activities, and ensure the site is maintained as a welcoming environment for all visitors.

Key Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a point of contact for the student Tourism Ambassadors/Tour Guides throughout the day, ensuring they understand their responsibilities and are supported in their roles.
  • Monitor and assist student team members during visitor interactions, guided tours, social media updates, website/blog tasks, and other activities, addressing questions or concerns.
  • Coordinate daily schedules, assignments, and tasks for the student team, ensuring coverage at regional events, and the Historic SDG Jail.
  • Provide guidance to students, modeling excellent customer service, safety practices, and professional behavior.
  • Greet visitors, respond to inquiries, and provide information about regional tourism assets.
  • Provide pop-up visitor services at local businesses, trails, and events throughout SDG Counties.
  • Post engaging content to social media platforms for both SDG Tourism and the Historic SDG Jail (Facebook, Instagram, TikTok).
  • Assist with website updates and write blog posts.
  • Take visitors on guided tours of the Historic SDG Jail, creating safe and memorable experiences.
  • Manage point-of-sale transactions.
  • Provide basic cleaning and upkeep of the jail.

Qualifications:

The candidate must:

    • be a student who is enrolled in full-time post-secondary studies in the fall; and
    • possess a valid class G Ontario driver's licence.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills are required.
  • Bilingualism (English & French) is considered an asset.
  • Successful applicants will be required to provide a driver’s abstract indicating a clean driving record, prior to commencement.

Safety Considerations/ Training Elements:

  • Expectation to keep equipment in good working condition (i.e. general daily safety checklist to complete prior to departing)
  • Expectation to wear appropriate PPE for the job.

Work Demands/Stress Risks:

  • Physical exertion and fatigue; exposure to natural elements; exposure to insects; travel on varying terrain; lone worker; interactions with public; and unpredictable interactions with motorists, other cyclists and pedestrian traffic.
  • Students will receive in-depth Health & Safety training provided by SDG Counties prior to beginning work.
