Job Overview:

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled university, college or high school student to act as our full time summer dock attendant. The ideal candidate will play a vital role in maintaining the beauty and functionality of our outdoor spaces. This position involves hands-on work with various tools and equipment. The successful applicant will be responsible for performing a range of tasks related to boating, dock and grounds maintenance.

Applicant must be 19 years of age or older and have access to a vehicle.

Areas of Responsibility:

Boats:

  • Assist with dock lines during arrival and departure of boats
  • Maintain dock master’s office
  • Monitor VHF radio for calls on channel 71 (keep handheld radio with you; turn on radio in harbor master’s office)
  • Maintain vacancy board in dock master’s office (boats that are out for more than two days)
  • Register and assign slips to visiting boats (understand reciprocal policy; collect appropriate fees; ensure that cash receipts and registration forms have been retrieved by management the next day)
  • Aid with pump-outs of visiting boats only; collect fees and keep record of charges to visitors
  • Aid fleet captain with boating events

Docks:

  • Walk docks daily to check on pins and chains as well as ensuring power cords and mooring lines are secure
  • Inspect and Clean the dock lights daily or as required,
  • Check river water filters weekly
  • Clear floating weeds from around docks as needed
  • Paint any areas of docks as directed

House & Grounds:

  • Cut grass as needed
  • Water grass and plants regularly as needed (planters may require water daily)
  • Conduct landscape repairs as needed or directed
  • Straighten and tidy chairs/tables in Bateau Lounge and on patio
  • Sweep and tidy deck at harbor master’s office as needed
  • Check barbeques for propane and ignition once a week
  • Clear cobwebs etc. from icebox, phone area power pedestals
  • Clean any garbage or refuse from building and grounds
  • Remove garbage from containers to dumpster daily
  • Paint areas as directed
  • Effect minor repairs as directed

General:

  • Refer major problems to Manager, Rear or Vice Commodore.
  • Become familiar with policy and procedure handbook
  • This is a job that is busy on the weekend interacting with members & guests.

Personal Qualities:

  • Personable and friendly individual who enjoys helping others
  • Shows initiative in identifying and completing jobs that need to be done
  • Conscientious in being punctual and able to work without direct supervision
  • Knowledgeable about water and boating safety (willing to obtain Pleasure Craft Operator Card)
  • Able to follow directions (responsible to the club manager, rear commodore and vice commodore)

Certificates required:

  • Pleasure Craft Operators Card,
  • VHF Radio Operators License,
  • Smart Serve
  • Club will reimburse cost to attain these certificates.
