Job Description:

Install, analyze, test, troubleshoot, and evaluate telecommunications systems, such as Radio and Network Systems, Telephony Systems, and Internet systems or a segment of a network system. Perform network and system testing to ensure operation and compliance.

What will you do:

• Travel to various military Airforce bases across Canada for up to 3 weeks at a time to remove outdated equipment and associated cabling as needed and install new telecommunications equipment in its place.
• Install various military airfield communications systems, such as Radios, Radar Networks, Computer and Telephony Systems.
• Analyze network data to determine network function, or server function and troubleshoot as required.
• Install new hardware or software systems or components, ensuring integration with existing network systems.
• Read and interpret blueprints and technical data packages (TDP) to ensure installations and equipment match to ensure compliance.
• Prepare and complete technical documentation pertaining to equipment and cabling modifications as required to ensure the TDP is updated.
• Create or revise user instructions, procedures, or manuals.
• Testing of local area network (LAN), wide area network (WAN), hubs, routers, switches, controllers, multiplexers, or related telecommunications and networking equipment.
• Complete On Job Training to ensure compliance and knowledge of expected military installation standards.

Technical Skills and Technology used:

• Knowledge of various types of cabling and installation procedures such as CAT5, CAT6, Telephone Cabling as well as Fibre Optic Cabling and network multiplexers.
• Knowledge of Network monitoring software: Microsoft Network Monitor, Packet analyzers, WildPackets OmniPeek Network Analyzer, Zabbix, Route
• Knowledge of various virus protection software: Antivirus software, Anti-spyware software, Symantec, Encryption software.
• Some working knowledge of administration software: SolarWinds, Cisco Systems CiscoWorks LAN Management Solution, Cisco Systems CiscoWorks, ifconfig, ipconfig.
• Knowledge of Network security or virtual private network VPN management software.
• Knowledge and experience diagnosing, performance deficiencies, troubleshooting and repairing equipment and related cabling and systems using various test equipment.
