Signals Intelligence (SIGINT) Specialists intercept and analyze electronic transmissions, including foreign communications, while working in highly secure, restricted environments handling sensitive information.
Compensation: New members start at a daily rate of $143.76, earning over $19K during the May-August summer period and approximately $25K in their first full year, including their part-time service during the school year.
Service Pattern: From September to May, Reserve Force members typically serve one evening per week and one weekend per month with their home unit.
Training:
At 21 Electronic Warfare Regiment, initial instruction focuses on core military skills, followed by tactical Electronic Warfare specialization. After basic training and foundational soldier, driver, and communications courses, candidates learn to collect, process, analyze, and report on electromagnetic activity using advanced equipment in austere Army environments.
Eligibility & Commitment:
Candidates must be prepared for both physical and academic training. The SIGINT Specialist trade requires a minimum of 4 months of full-time training within a member's first three years. While structured to align well with post secondary schedules, the role is open to all including: gig economy workers, the underemployed, and those between jobs. Not all training must occur during summer blocks.
Career Path:
Upon completing training, members may apply for opportunities locally or abroad, transfer to the Regular Force, or leverage their skills in other roles. Weekly information sessions are offered, followed by optional one-on-one appointments early in the application process. Positions at 21 Electronic Warfare Regiment are competitive, and applicants may not receive their first choice trade on initial selection.
Applicants must meet three basic eligibility requirements:
- Age: You must be between 16 and 57 years old.
- Citizenship: You must be a Canadian citizen. Permanent residents may apply for positions with lower security requirements, though processing may take longer due to background checks.
- Education: Requirements vary by role. Most positions accept any post secondary degree, while Computer Science and Electrical Engineering degrees qualify for all positions. Roles at 21 Electronic Warfare Regiment are competitive, and meeting minimum criteria does not guarantee selection for a preferred trade.
In addition to the above, all applicants must successfully complete a medical assessment, a physical fitness evaluation, and a background check as part of the enrollment process. Applying quickly helps us get you through the application process in time for your desired start date.
