The Job
The Banquet Captain plays a key leadership role in ensuring the flawless execution of all meetings, events, and food & beverage functions within the hotel. This position focuses primarily on front-of-house operations, overseeing the setup, service, and breakdown of banquet events while maintaining the highest standards of hospitality, presentation, and guest satisfaction as defined by hotel management.

What You'll Do
- Coordinate the setup, service, and breakdown of all banquet, meeting, and food & beverage functions in accordance with hotel standards and client expectations.
- Assist the Senior Banquet Manager in scheduling banquet staff based on event requirements; serve as the primary point of contact for schedule adjustments, shift changes, and cancellations.
- Foster positive relationships through clear communication and professional interactions with clients, colleagues, and event partners.
- Oversee the ordering and organization of non-alcoholic beverages, linens, and other event supplies.
- Update and program lobby reader boards daily to ensure accurate event information is displayed.
- Conduct inspections to confirm each function space is set up to hotel specifications and client requests prior to event start times.
- Manage bar setup and closing procedures, including inventory counts, bar summaries, and accurate cash deposits.
- Welcome and assist clients upon arrival, ensuring they are familiar with the event space and amenities.
- Support the training and development of banquet team members to ensure service excellence and operational consistency.
- Maintain banquet rooms, back-of-house areas, and storage spaces in a clean, organized, and presentable condition at all times.
- Promote teamwork, cultural competency, and service excellence through effective communication and collaboration with other departments.
- Support and promote a workplace culture that values equity, diversity, inclusion, and Indigeneity, ensuring all perspectives are respected and represented in decision-making.
- Perform banquet porter or server duties as required to support event operations.

Who We're Looking For
- Completion of secondary school diploma (Grade 12) plus additional post-secondary courses or licenses or a one year certificate in a related area, or equivalent.
- Minimum one year customer service experience, preferably in a Banquet setting
- Ability to communicate clearly and professionally in English, both verbally and in writing
- Smart Serve certified
- Ability to use sound judgement in day to day activities and decision making
- Proven leadership skills
- Must have excellent customer service skills and sound decision making abilities
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- High attention to detail and be a team player
- Must possess the ability to communicate effectively within a diverse team environment
- Ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a multi-cultural environment with co-workers, managers, and guests
- Must be flexible to work mornings, afternoons, evenings, late into the night, weekends and holidays
