Job Summary

This role is responsible for managing the day-to-day bookkeeping and payroll functions of the organization, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely reporting. Reporting to the Operations Manager and working in a private sector environment, the Parttime Bookkeeper & Payroll Administrator is a valuable member of our team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate financial records including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger entries
  • Process bi-weekly payroll accurately and on time using Payworks
  • Reconcile bank and credit card statements
  • Manage invoicing, receipt and expense documentation using Dext
  • Process vendor payments and manage payment workflows through Plooto
  • Prepare monthly financial reports for management review
  • Prepare and file HST and EHT remittances and other regulatory submissions
  • Support annual audit preparation, including compiling documentation, reconciliations, and working papers in collaboration with an external audit agency
  • Assist with month-end and year-end close processes
  • Liaise with external accountants and auditors as required 

Competencies & Skills Required

  • Minimum 3–5 years of bookkeeping and payroll experience
  • Proficiency in Xero is required
  • Experience with Dext (receipt and document management) is required
  • Experience with Plooto (payment processing) is required
  • Experience with Payworks (payroll processing) is required
  • Solid understanding of Canadian payroll legislation and CRA requirements
  • Experience with HST/GST and EHT filing
  • Familiarity with audit preparation processes and working with external agencies
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Completion of a bookkeeping, accounting, or business administration program considered an asset
  • Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) and/or Certified Professional Bookkeeper (CPB) designation considered an asset
