This role is an integral part of service delivery for residents and visitors of Loyalist Township. Reporting to the Aquatics Coordinator, the Aqua Fitness Instructor is responsible for providing a safe aquatic environment and delivering high quality instruction in a variety of Aquatic Fitness programs.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide a fun and safe aquatic environment for patrons.
  • Demonstrate exceptional customer service.
  • Enforce pool rules and policies in a polite and professional manner.
  • Report any equipment malfunctions or safety issues to the Aquatics Coordinator; ensure equipment is properly maintained and stored; maintain a clean working environment.
  • Instruct Aqua Fitness classes according to the principles of certifying body, including providing feedback to participants to ensure they are performing exercises correctly and minimizing risk of injury.
  • Complete administrative tasks as needed including completing any incident/accident reports when required.
  • Respond to emergencies by supporting the Lifeguards on duty and assisting in any First Aid as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

*Note: All activities are expected to be performed in a safe manner, in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its Regulations, along with Corporate Safety policies, procedures and programs. In addition, all necessary personal protective equipment must be used and maintained in good condition.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education

  • Current Aqua Fitness certification from CALA, WaterArt, YMCA or of equal merit.
  • Standard First Aid; CPR-C Certification.

Experience

  • No previous experience required.

Knowledge/Skill/Ability

  • Must be reliable, enthusiastic, and knowledgeable in the field of fitness and wellness and have strong leadership skills.
  • Ability to create and plan a high-quality class routine.
  • Ability to motivate participants to be engaged and get the greatest benefit out of their workout experience.
  • Knowledge of how to safely use water fitness equipment and how to instruct others in the safe use of the equipment
  • Ability to work a varied schedule, including evenings, weekends and statutory holidays

Other Requirements

  • Reliable transportation
  • Obtain and maintain satisfactory vulnerable sector Criminal Record Check (CPIC).

  • Internal-Other aquatics staff, Facility Operators, other recreation team members.
  • External-Community groups, clubs, patrons and members of the public.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Indoor pool environment
  • Exposure to noise (patrons, whistles)
  • Exposure to chemicals used in the pool
  • Heat & humidity of pool environment
  • Must be able to stand/walk on pool desk for prolonged periods
  • Constant visual awareness of surroundings.
  • Lift Weight: Carrying equipment (<50kgs)
