Southern Frontenac Community Services Corporation (SFCSC) is a rural based organization that delivers community service programs to seniors and others in South Frontenac and rural Kingston, such as an adult day program, hot and frozen meals on wheels, congregate dining, home help services, social and recreational programs for seniors, caregiver, hospice and bereavement support as well as a Food Bank.

  • Program Location: Southern Frontenac Community Services, 4295 Stagecoach Rd, Sydenham, ON
  • Details: Temporary Full-Time – 15 week summer position, 30 hours a week, Monday to Friday – Start date to be determined

Position Overview:

SFCSC is seeking an enthusiastic and compassionate summer student to support programs and services for seniors. This role focuses on enhancing the well-being, social connection, and engagement of seniors through recreational, social, and wellness activities.

The successful candidate will support daily operations and programs, assist with administrative tasks, and contribute to outreach initiatives. They will work collaboratively with staff and volunteers to support program delivery, strengthen community engagement, and enhance the overall impact of the organization’s initiatives.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Provide friendly and professional communication via phone, email, and in-person interactions
  • Perform clerical duties, including data entry, filing, scanning, and organizing documents; assist with digitizing and archiving physical records
  • Use office software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Canva, AI tools, to support daily operations
  • Draft social media content, flyers, newsletters, and other promotional materials and support outreach efforts to raise awareness of programs and services
  • Assist with preparing guides and tips for using AI tools in the workplace and basic demonstrations for staff
  • Support the planning and execution of on-site events and fundraisers, including setup, registration, attendance tracking, and public interactions
  • Contribute to the delivery of programs and services, gaining hands-on experience working with older adults
  • Assist with set up and take down of program spaces, materials and supporting staff and/or volunteers during activities
  • Help create a welcoming and inclusive environment for everyone

Eligibility (based on Canada Summer Jobs grant criteria):

  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment
  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act
  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number and be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Be enrolled in and returning to school (secondary or post-secondary)

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary program alignment with community/social services will be considered an asset.
  • Personable and professional, with the ability to interact effectively with diverse members of the community
  • Knowledge of the local region (South Frontenac) is an asset
  • Creative interest or experience in developing promotional materials and content is an asset
  • Interest in community services and social programs
  • Friendly, reliable, and flexible with strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team
  • Comfortable conversing with individuals of all ages
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Willingness to learn and develop skills in office tools
  • Access to reliable transportation to office and/or event locations required
