Martha’s Table is a community center within the social welfare network of the City of Kingston. Martha’s Table provides a unique home where respect, compassion, caring and social interaction can occur in an atmosphere of mutual support, with nutritious meals and snacks in comfortable dining and lounge facilities. We are currently seeking Cooks to join our team!

Responsibilities:

  • Support, train and lead volunteers during weekend shifts, ensuring a positive and productive work environment and addressing questions and concerns as they arise.
  • Adhere to safe food handling practices.
  • Prep and cook meals in accordance with the menu, maintaining quality and consistency. Assist in the weekend menu planning during weekday shifts to ensure this.
  • Oversee take-out meal service on weekend ensuring safe, positive service on Martha’s property.
  • Communicate effectively with team to ensure consistency in inventory and service.
  • Prepare food items for use during the week.
  • Address and resolve as able any issues or challenges that may arise on-site during operational hours, documenting any incidents of concern.
  • Maintain building security and follow cleaning & closing procedures.
  • Document food donations that arrive during the weekend to ensure that items are properly stored.
  • Follow all policy & procedures to maintain a safe welcoming environment for volunteers and guests.
  • Communicate incidents, concerns and other relevant information from the weekend to the Operations Manager.

Qualifications:

  • Preference given to candidates with institutional or bulk cooking experience such as banquets etc.
  • Safe Food handling certificate required

Qualities:

  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with volunteers and staff.
  • Positive attitude and the ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing needs and priorities

Experience:

  • A minimum of one year of cooking experience is preferred for this position. 
  • The role is a part-time, permanent opportunity, with hours ranging from 20 to 29 per week. 
  • All work is performed on-site and requires in-person attendance. The schedule includes availability on some weekdays and all weekends.
