Cataraqui Conservation is seeking a skilled individual to fill the position of Operations Labourer – Seasonal Support within our Operations team. Cataraqui Conservation owns and maintains properties throughout its jurisdiction for environmental and recreational purposes. For more information, please visit: https://cataraquiconservation.ca/.

As a member of the Operations & Maintenance Team, the Operations Labourer position helps maintain Cataraqui Conservation facilities, equipment, land and property. Duties include grass cutting, landscaping, trail maintenance, as well as supporting many trade related tasks including carpentry, plumbing, painting, and cleaning.

  • Location: Primary Reporting Location: Operations Shop - Little Cataraqui Creek Conservation Area in Kingston, Ontario
  • Status: Seasonal contract position
  • Hours: 40 hours per week with an unpaid lunch hour. Hours: 6:30am-5:00pm Monday through Thursday with unpaid half-hour lunch
  • Compensation: $18.25 to $19.37 per hour, dependent on experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain Conservation Authority properties and facilities to ensure the safety and convenience for area users which may include:
  • Perform outdoor seasonal maintenance activities such as general landscaping, grass cutting, planting, collecting garbage, trail maintenance, painting, etc.
  • Maintain structures and facilities in good condition by performing duties such as minor repairs, painting, cleaning,
  • Complete small carpentry projects such as installing signs and building picnic tables.
  • Monitor trails, roads, land, structures, and buildings.
  • Report property maintenance requirements.
  • Promote adherence to Conservation Authority regulations/rules to patrons and visitors.
  • Support special programs and events such as Facility rentals, Forestry and Education programs by performing tasks such as moving furniture etc.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High School Graduation.
  • 1 to 2 years relevant experience.
  • Ability to operate equipment such as hand and power tools, mowers, implements, utility vehicles etc. On the job training will also be provided.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal, problem solving, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and show initiative, reliability and self-motivation to complete day-to-day tasks.
  • Ability to perform under pressure.
  • Proficiency with the full suite of Microsoft Office software.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated flexibility and the ability to adapt to a fast-paced changing environment, with repetitive tasks.
  • Chainsaw Operators Certification (an asset).
  • Valid Class G Driver’s License or equivalent required.
  • Must have transportation to and from Primary Reporting Location.
  • Demonstrated interest and stamina to work full days outside.
  • Ability to hold up to 23 kg (50lbs) and conduct outdoor work on sites with rough terrain and inclement weather conditions.
  • Basic English is required.
