Friends of St. Alban’s Adolphustown is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Summer Student to serve as an Activities/Program Lead for July and August 2026. This position is ideal for a student interested in gaining experience in program management, volunteer coordination, and community engagement. The Activities/Program Lead will play a key role in delivering our community café operations and facilitating the coordination and delivery of various activities and programs for local community members. 

This role requires a proactive and compassionate individual who enjoys working with diverse groups, especially seniors, and values community service. There are opportunities to apply strong technical skills to developing new programs that provide a modernized approach to learning and exploring the history of the historic centre.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the planning, coordination, and delivery of engaging programs and activities tailored to the needs and interests of seniors, and other community members, such as recreational events, health and wellness sessions, arts, cultural and educational workshops. 
  • Assist in the creation of new technical programs, designed to respond to the needs and interests of the community, and offers a modernized approach to knowledge mobilization about the historic centre.

Volunteer Coordination:

  • Providing training to volunteers assisting in café operations.
  • Assist volunteers as necessary in the delivery of activities (e.g. Escape Room adventure, Garage marketplace, Used Book Store, church tours), provide support as needed, and foster a positive and collaborative environment.

Café and Activities Operations:

  • Ensure timing setup and opening of community café, Garage marketplace, Used Book Store and church building.
  • Hands-on delivery of daily operations of the community café; ensuring a welcoming atmosphere for all patrons.
  • Coordinate stock management, ensuring food safety and cleanliness standards are maintained.
  • Ensure accurate reporting of daily revenue receipts using point-of-sales software (Square).

Community Engagement and Support:

  • Assist volunteer leads by acting as an additional point of contact as necessary to provide support to program participants to ensure their needs are met during activities.
  • Cultivate relationships with seniors, volunteers, and community members, promoting a sense of community and belonging.

Administrative Duties:

  • Provide feedback to the Board Activities/Programs leadership.
  • Help with setup of program activities as required.
  • Track programs attendance, supplies utilization and achievement of goals
  • Track volunteer engagement

Qualifications

  • Educational Background: Currently enrolled in a post-secondary program in a relevant field, such as Hospitality Management, Social Work, Gerontology, Recreation, Non-Profit Management, Business Management or similar.
  • Experience: Previous experience in community service, volunteer management, or customer service would be considered an asset.

Skills:

  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with an ability to connect with seniors and volunteers.
  • Required to complete online certification of Food Safety (Food Handler) Certification (cost to be reimbursed).
  • Comfortable using basic office software (e.g., Microsoft Office). Strong technical skills for developing modernized learning modules for the community. knowledge of leveraging online AI tools.

Working Conditions

  • Hours: Part-time, 14 hours per week, Saturday and Sunday, June 5 – June 27
  • Full-time, 35 hours per week, Thursday to Monday, July 2 – August 24
  • Location: On-site at St. Alban’s Centre. 10419 Loyalist Parkway, Adolphustown, Ontario
  • Physical Requirements: This role may require standing for extended periods and some light lifting related to café operations.
