Reporting to the Program Manager-School Safety Zone, the Team Lead position will provide necessary duties in “the field” at intersections and routes throughout the City, supporting both the Adult Crossing Guard (ACG) program and the Walking School Bus (WSB) program within operational school hours.
Other details:
- Starting at $20.00/hour
- $15.00 per diem for mileage
- 3 hours per day (1.5 hours in the AM and 1.5 hours in the PM)
- Team Leads must be available to work Monday to Friday (all AM and all PM shifts)
- Operational School Year (August to June)
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conduct all duties and responsibilities of an Adult Crossing Guard when required.
- Responsible for all intersections and Walking School Bus routes that fall within their Zone.
- Responsible for building their schedules in such a way that allows the Team Lead to visit each of their intersections in the morning and afternoon at least once in a three (3) month period.
- Visit specific sites as requested by the Office.
- Effectively communicate with Adult Crossing Guards and Walking School Bus Leaders by answering questions, listen and address concerns, building rapport, etc.
- Liaising with the staff at various schools within the Team Leads Zone
- Complete administrative tasks using the designated tablet to complete Pedestrian Counts, Site Inspections and Performance Reviews.
- Training and Coaching new Adult Crossing Guards and Walking School Bus Leaders.
- Promptly reporting any potentially dangerous situations to the School Zone Safety Program Manager and Coordinator.
- Promptly reporting Crossing Guard and WSB Leader absenteeism/performance issues to the School Zone Safety Program and Coordinator
- Distribution & Retrieval of Equipment
- Dispersal of rewards and incentives to the Adult Crossing Guards and Walking School Bud Leaders
- Acting in the role of Adult Crossing Guard and/or Walking School Bus Leader to cover open shifts.
- Comply with all safety requirements and wear all required equipment (provided)
- Maintain a calm and professional demeanor at all times.
Position Requirements:
- Smart Phone with access to a data plan is mandatory.
- Valid Ontario Driver’s License and access to a vehicle is mandatory.
- Valid Standard First Aid with CPR C certification is an asset.
- Availability to work Monday to Friday (all AM and PM shifts)
- Must be available to work at all intersections identified in your indicated Zone.
- Police Records Check (PRC) with the Vulnerable Sector – PRC can be completed during the application process. Costs associated with the PRC will be reimbursed by the OSC after three (3) months of employment. Employment offer conditional upon a valid and clean PRC
- Effective communications (verbal and listening) skills in English
- Ability to interact and cooperate with people of diverse ages, identities and backgrounds
- Ability to work independently and complete daily activities according to a work schedule
- Confirmation of physical health from a licensed physician may be required. Reference to full manual dexterity and multilimbed coordination essential. Due to the requirements of the position, accommodations due to health may be limited.
Working Conditions and Physical Capacity Requirements
- Ability to walk briskly, move repeatedly in and out of the intersection, and stand for up to 2 hours.
- Stand and maintain alertness for the entirety of scheduled shifts.
- Ability to hold a 5-lb Stop Sign Paddle above shoulder height for extended periods of time.
- 20/20 Vision (with or without corrective lenses) along with adequate depth and peripheral perception
- Accountable to work in all environmental conditions. Environmental conditions may include but are not limited to snowstorms, freezing rain, cold temperatures, rain, heat waves, humidity, hot temperatures, and dust, etc.
- Ability to dress appropriately for and perform moderate physical labour during all weather conditions.
- Hazards associated with high traffic conditions.
- Daily travel within Team Leads designated Zone.
