The Subsidy Coordinator plays a key role in supporting individuals living with mental health and/or substance use challenges to secure and maintain safe, stable, and affordable housing. Working within the Housing & Homelessness team, the Coordinator administers rent subsidies, determines eligibility, calculates subsidy amounts, and ensures compliance with program, legislative, and funder requirements. 

This position involves regular interaction with clients, landlords, housing providers, frontline staff, and community partners, requiring strong communication skills, empathy, and the ability to navigate sensitive housing and financial situations. 

The Coordinator maintains accurate documentation, prepares financial reports, and collaborates closely with the Finance team to ensure timely delivery of rent supports. 

This is a position that contributes directly to housing stability and homelessness prevention across Hastings Prince Edward.

Minimum Qualifications & Experience:

  • Diploma or degree in Social Services, Social Work, Housing Management, Community Services, or a related field.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in housing services, rent subsidy administration, community mental health, or homelessness services.
  • Experience supporting clients facing mental health challenges, homelessness, or housing instability.
  • Knowledge of the Residential Tenancies Act and tenant/landlord rights and responsibilities.
  • Understanding of rent subsidy programs, social assistance systems (OW/ODSP), and housing supports.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex financial or housing information clearly.
  • Ability to work with landlords and housing providers to resolve tenancy?related issues.
  • Experience with documentation and record?keeping in electronic systems (EMHWare an asset).
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel for subsidy calculations and tracking.
  • Strong organizational and time?management skills with the ability to meet strict monthly deadlines.
  • Basic math and analytical skills for calculating subsidies, arrears, and rent adjustments.
  • Ability to interpret policies and guidelines and apply them consistently.
  • Experience working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and community partners.
  • Conflict resolution and problem?solving skills for navigating client or landlord concerns.
  • Commitment to trauma?informed, client?centered practice and equity?based service delivery.
  • Must possess a valid Ontario Driver's License, have regular access to a reliable vehicle, and provide proof of adequate vehicle insurance.
  • Required to provide a satisfactory criminal record check (CRC) with vulnerable sector screening prior to hire.
