The goal of the OECT Youth Coordinator is to help assist post-secondary youth achieve their educational goals. The incumbent will be responsive to the diverse educational needs of children and youth in care and provide supports to improve their educational outcomes. The OECT Youth Coordinator coordinates educational support and provides culturally responsive system navigation support for eligible children and youth. 

The incumbent helps to resolve issues that impact the educational success of eligible children and youth, and strengthen relationships among societies, public school boards, First Nations school authorities, schools, and community partners in order to improve the educational outcomes of eligible children and youth. This position is a shared resource between FACSFLA and Highland Shores CAS.

Required Qualifications/Skills:

  • Minimum of Community College diploma in a related field- Behavioural Sciences Technology program; Child & Youth Worker program; Social Services Worker program etc.
  • Sound knowledge of child development and adolescent behaviours
  • Excellent engagement skills with both youth and adults
  • Knowledge of diverse educational and support needs of children and youth
  • Able to work independently and effectively, as a member of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Possess skills to effectively problem solve and work collaboratively with others
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent organization and time management skills
  • Possess a valid driver’s license with access to a reliable vehicle
  • Computer literacy
  • Solid understanding of the needs of youth in care, preferably through lived experience
