Reporting to the Manager, Campus Accessibility and Space Planning (Manager) and working closely with Facilities senior management, the Campus Accessibility and Wayfinding Specialist is responsible for maintaining wayfinding and signage standards across campus. This role ensures consistency in design, compliance with regulations, and alignment with university branding while supporting various stakeholders in planning and implementing signage solutions. The Specialist will collaborate with Integrated Communications and other university stakeholders to ensure signage reflects the university's visual identity and strategic objectives.

With a commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusivity, and working in collaboration with the Manager , the specialist is responsible for ensuring updating and maintenance of the Queen's University Facility Accessibility Design Standards and the preparation of the university's Accessibility Plan including the preparation of reports and information for the Built Environment Advisory Group, advice on I-EDIAA initiatives for the built environment as well as the review of capital projects to ensure compliance with (QFADS).

This position is responsible for the ongoing review, updating, and maintenance of Queen's Facility Accessibility Design Standards (QFADS), as well as assisting in the preparation of the University's Accessibility Plan. This includes advising on I-EDIAA initiatives and contributing to reports and information related to the built environment. This position supports the development of studies, data gathering, analyses, and recommendations for the preparation of reports. It also involves reviewing capital projects to ensure compliance with QFADS. This position also maintains campus-wide wayfinding and signage standards, working collaboratively with Integrated Communications and other university partners stakeholders to ensure signage aligns with the university's visual identity and strategic objectives.

What you will do:

  • Acts as a subject matter expert supporting departments and partners in creating accessible environments within their assigned spaces.
  • Updates and maintains the Queen’s University Facility Accessibility Design Standards (QFADS).
  • Reviews project design drawings to confirm conformity to QFADS.
  • Develops & reviews conceptual, schematic and detailed design in architectural discipline (accessibility, wellness and inclusivity).
  • Identifies opportunities where accessibility gains can be made within the confines of existing infrastructure and building inventory to improve accessibility and wellness of all occupants.
  • Assists with the development of studies, data gathering, analyses, and recommendations for the preparation of reports.
  • Liaises with key partners to integrate accessibility and inclusive design in construction and renovation projects.
  • Provides administrative support for Committee including the preparation of agenda package, minutes, records of decision and communicating with committee members.
  • Oversees signage installations to ensure compliance with design standards, regulations, and project plans.
  • Identifies and addresses issues post-installation, coordinating follow-ups with suppliers and partners.
  • Ensures installations align with ""as-built"" plans and technical documentation and conducts site inspections to verify compliance with university standards and regulations.
  • Responsible for signage ordering.
  • Other duties as required in support of the department and/or unit.

Required Education:

  • Three-year Community College Diploma or Three-Year Bachelor Degree, or equivalent in interior design preferred or in architecture preferred.

Required Experience

  • More than 3 years and up to and including 5 years of experience.
  • Experience with providing administrative support considered an asset (e.g., document editing, proofing, formatting and production, data entry, scheduling/coordinating meetings and/or travel arrangements, receiving/relaying messages, etc.).

Required Licenses and Certifications

  • Satisfactory Criminal Records Check required.
  • Vulnerable Sector Screening required.

Consideration may be given to an equivalent combination of education and experience.
