Education Instructor - BGC South East

BGC South East is seeking enthusiastic and reliable Education Instructors to support the delivery of STEM education and recreational programming for children and youth ages 4–18. This role is ideal for teachers, education students, STEM graduates, or recreation leaders looking for part-time evening work. 

They will assist in the planning, organizing, and delivery of BGC South East programs that are designed to develop skills and facilitate the personal, educational, social, and emotional development of young people. They will also recognize and accept the need to be a positive influence who models honesty, fair play, a positive attitude, cooperation, and respect for self and others.

Locations:

• Brockville STEM & Education Centre (St. Lawrence College Campus) - 2288 Parkedale Ave (Room 275)
• Kemptville STEM & Education Centre (Kemptville Campus) - 40 Campus Drive, Parish Hall

Role Details:

• Rate: $23-26/hour
• Term: October 2026 - June 2027
• Hours: 10 - 20 hours/week based on program & staff availability, including evenings and weekends
• Schedule: Primarily evening programs (4:30 - 8:00 pm) during the school year, with opportunities for daytime hours and weekend programming.

Key Responsibilities:

• Plan, lead, and participate in STEM education programs that are based on HIGH FIVE, BGC’s Model for Success, and align with the relevant parts of Ontario’s educational curriculum.
• Programs can include STEM after-school or evening programs, Literacy evening and weekend programs, PA day camps, school field trips, day programs, in-school workshops, and birthday parties.
• Supervise and lead children & youth in the programs, encouraging them to learn, explore, create, and have fun.
• Ensure staff-to-child ratios are maintained at all times.
• Complete records as required (Incident, Accident forms, etc.).
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized space.
• Implement behavior management techniques effectively per BGC policies and procedures.
• Support & Communicate with the Supervisor/Manager/Coordinator regarding programs and ensure that they meet all BGC standards.
• Participate in staff training and meetings.
• Act as a positive role model for BGC South East in the community and with partners.

Job Requirements:

• Currently enrolled or post-secondary education, preferably in Education, Science, Engineering, Technology, ECE, Child & Youth Care, Social Service Worker, Recreation & Leisure, or a related field is preferred.
• Experience working with children and youth in education, recreation, camps, or community programs.
• Experience teaching or facilitating STEM learning is an asset.
• Background or interest in STEM education, teaching, coaching, or youth leadership is an asset .
• Standard First Aid/C.P.R. LEVEL C - certification.
• TDP (10-year booster) and MMR immunizations must be up to date.
• Criminal Reference Check (including Vulnerable Sector Check).
• Valid driver's license / reliable transportation is an asset.

Job Specifications:

• Be a positive role model and enjoy working in a children's and youth environment.
• Ability to work both independently and with a team with minimal supervision.
• Mentoring and/or coaching abilities.
• General knowledge of diversity issues (cultural, socio-economic, etc.).
• Demonstrate conflict resolution skills.
• Demonstrate understanding of various aspects of child development and behaviour management techniques.
