Kumon is a world-renowned after-school learning program focused on helping students develop strong math and reading skills, independent learning habits, confidence, and a positive attitude toward learning.
We are looking for reliable, enthusiastic, patient, and hardworking Learning Assistants/Graders to join our Kumon centre. This is an excellent part-time opportunity for individuals who enjoy working with children and may be interested in pursuing a career in teaching, education, childcare, or youth development.
Role Details:
- Hours: Approximately 6–10 hours per week, depending on availability
- Location: On-site at the Kumon Centre- 256 Pitt Street Cornwall,ON
- Pay: $17.90/hr
- Experience: No previous teaching experience required; training will be provided
- Centre Class Hours
- Monday- Friday 3:30 PM – 7:30 PM
- Saturday: 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Actual scheduled hours will depend on the centre's needs and the successful candidate's availability.
Key Responsibilities:
Student Support
- Welcome and assist students in a friendly, positive, and respectful manner.
- Supervise, interact with, encourage, and motivate students during class hours.
- Help students stay focused and develop good study habits.
- Assist students with understanding corrections and encourage them to identify and correct their own mistakes.
- Provide age-appropriate guidance while encouraging students to work independently.
- Communicate any concerns regarding a student's work, progress, behaviour, or attitude to the Centre Instructor.
Grading & Student Records
- Grade students' completed worksheets accurately and efficiently.
- Record and document student results according to Kumon centre procedures.
- Identify areas where students may need additional support or clarification.
- Help ensure students receive the appropriate materials and assignments for their next scheduled class.
Worksheet & Centre Preparation
- Prepare students' worksheets and materials before class.
- Date and organize worksheets in the appropriate sequence.
- Prepare students' homework packages for their next scheduled session.
- Maintain an organized, clean, and welcoming learning environment.
Teamwork & Centre Operations
- Work cooperatively with the Centre Instructor and other Learning Assistants.
- Follow Kumon centre procedures and instructions & Support centre activities
- Contribute to a positive and encouraging learning environment.

The successful candidate should be:
- Reliable, punctual, and responsible.
- Patient and comfortable working with children.
- Friendly, positive, and enthusiastic.
- Strong in math and/or reading.
- Detail-oriented and able to grade work accurately
- Able to encourage students while promoting independent learning. • Able to communicate clearly and respectfully with students and team members.
- Comfortable following instructions and established procedures.
- Willing to learn and take feedback.
- Available to work consistently during scheduled centre hours
Qualifications
- High school students, university/college students, and graduates are welcome to apply.
- Secondary School education preferred.
- Previous experience working with children, tutoring, teaching, coaching, or childcare is an asset but not required.
- Candidates interested in pursuing careers in education or teaching are especially encouraged to apply.
